James Woods Buries Pelosi After She Complains About Trump's Booming Economy
Nancy Pelosi and James Woods are the two best advertisements for the Republican Party, albeit for different reasons. In Woods’ case, it’s for his Twitter feed. In Pelosi’s case, it’s because she provides so much material for it.
Pelosi, you may have heard, attacked the positive May jobs report that showed 3.8 percent unemployment, an 18-year low, and record low black unemployment of 5.9 percent.
Businesses added 223,000 jobs, well more than 159,000 in April. But, according to an unintentionally hilarious statement from Pelosi, President Donald Trump’s policies have undermined all of that economic progress — even though most of the problems she cited were generated by the Democrats.
“May’s jobs report shows that strong employment numbers mean little to the families hit with soaring new costs under the Republicans’ watch,” Pelosi said in the statement.
“Republicans’ cruel, cynical health care sabotage campaign is already spiking families’ premiums by double digits and pushing millions off their coverage, according to the nonpartisan CBO,” Pelosi said.
Wait, double-digit premium hikes? Gosh, I’ve never heard that before, except for nearly every year under Obamacare, the strictures of which are mostly fueling the premium increases. Also, this “cruel, cynical health care sabotage” involves removing the onerous individual mandate, which forces younger, healthier (and generally less wealthy) Americans to subsidize the care of older Americans or pay a tax penalty.
If the Democrats wanted to stop this, they could simply help pass a comprehensive health care bill that repealed all of the provisions of Obamacare and started with a fresh slate and an eye toward reducing premiums and increasing consumer choice. (But I digress, as I always do.)
“Big Pharma continues to hoard the benefits of the GOP tax scam, using their handouts to further enrich executives and shareholders instead of lowering prescription drug costs for seniors and sick kids,” Pelosi’s statement continued. “At the same time, the President’s reckless policies are exploding gas prices, wiping out the few meager gains that some families should have received from the GOP tax scam, as wages remain stagnant.”
Wait, low gas prices are a Democrat priority? These are the people who have obstructed both Arctic National Wildlife Refuge drilling and the Keystone Pipeline, and begged Trump to stay with the Paris Accord, yet now House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is concerned about “exploding gas prices?” Also, if you keep on calling tax cuts “the GOP tax scam,” it doesn’t actually stop them from working.
“From day one, the White House and Republicans in Congress have sold out working and middle class families to further enrich the wealthy and big corporations shipping jobs overseas,” Pelosi’s statement continued. “Thanks to the massive windfall of the GOP tax scam, Wall Street and wealthy corporations are on track to spend $1 trillion on dividends and stock buybacks while simultaneously announcing tens of thousands of layoffs and shipping jobs overseas and refusing to raise workers’ wages.”
I feel like this whole thing should be narrated by Michael Moore and soundtracked to a Rage Against the Machine tune. But as Hollywood’s most outspoken conservative, Woods, may have had the best summary dismissal of this farrago of economic lament:

Exactly. As I was reading Pelosi’s statement, I was thinking about where I had heard this before. And then I remembered: 1984. No, not the book. The campaign:
Yes, remember those horrible Reagan years? Remember how we were all poor back then? Oh wait, no we weren’t. And the Democrats were furious, because their whole game relied on the idea of having more Americans enmeshed in their “safety net.”
Thirty-four long years later, the GOP and President Trump are extricating the nation out of the economic malaise of the Obama years, and Nancy Pelosi is telling us that “Democrats know that the American people deserve A Better Deal, with Better Jobs, Better Wages and a Better Future.” The words are slightly rearranged, but the message is the same: Let’s go back to where we were.
Americans didn’t fall for it then. They shouldn’t fall for it now. In their own ways, James Woods and Nancy Pelosi have provided two of the best arguments as to why the “blue wave” would be horrible for America.
