The View: Trump "Bully" but Biden "Chivalrous" for Talk about Beating Him up
If you thought the last presidential election was strange, buckle up: The 2020 race could be even more bizarre, at least if a spat between President Trump and Joe Biden is any indication.
Former Vice President Biden — who has hinted at running for the White House — unleashed his inner school bully on Tuesday, when he all but threatened to physically attack Trump.
“They asked me if I’d like to debate this gentleman, and I said no,” the 75-year-old politician declared about Trump during remarks at the University of Miami.
“I said, ‘If we were in high school, I’d take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him,'” Joe Biden brashly declared.
“I’ve been in a lot of locker rooms my whole life. I’m a pretty damn good athlete,” Biden boasted. “Any guy that talked that way was usually the fattest, ugliest SOB in the room.”
Yes, a former vice president just called the president of the United States fat and ugly, and announced that he wished he could beat him up. And you thought reality TV was over the top.
Trump didn’t do much to take the high road. On Thursday morning, he used Twitter — who’s surprised? — to defend himself against Biden, but took an equally immature tone.
“Crazy Joe Biden is trying to act like a tough guy. Actually, he is weak, both mentally and physically, and yet he threatens me, for the second time, with physical assault,” Trump posted.
“He doesn’t know me, but he would go down fast and hard, crying all the way. Don’t threaten people Joe!” he continued.
Do we even need to have presidential debates? Since the two leading candidates on opposing sides apparently want to just duke it out with fists, we could just throw them into the ring. Sell tickets to pay down the national debt. This could work.
But wait, as the infomercials say, there’s more! As if the mano-a-mano chest thumping wasn’t bizarre enough, one of the most left-leaning talk shows on television jumped into the fray, and doubled down on calling for President Trump to be physically assaulted.
“The View” host Sunny Hostin declared that Biden bragging about punching the U.S. president was “kind of chivalrous,” while apparently forgetting that Trump’s tweet was in response to Biden’s strange threat.
“He’s such a bully, such a bully,” Hostin said about Trump, before wondering out loud why nobody had “taken (Trump) out back and beat the crap out of him.”
Let’s recap: Joe Biden fantasizing about beating up the president is “chivalrous,” but responding to that threat makes Trump a “bully”… and the left is tripping over itself to endorse physical violence against the commander in chief.
To be clear, neither Biden’s nor Trump’s statements were particularly professional or magnanimous. They both need to stop acting like squabbling teenagers and set their huuuge egos aside.
But the fact that they each took equal jabs at each other makes The View’s appalling endorsement of violence even more inexcusable.
Instead of calling out both politicians for being out of line, they just couldn’t help themselves and skewed this strange spat to make a threatening liberal look like a hero and the president look like the aggressor.
This is the current state of liberalism in a nutshell: Up is down and red is blue. Political agendas have become so powerful that a liberal talk show cannot even admit that Joe Biden was inappropriate, because he’s one of them. Everything is seen through an us-versus-them lens, no matter the cost.
Ironically, people being tired of that media approach to politics is part of why Trump won in the first place. If that trend continues, 2020 could be a very interesting race. With characters like Trump and Biden in the mix, it certainly won’t be boring.
