In the Middle of UN Meetings, Trump Finds Time To Go Above and Beyond for 100-Year-Old Marine Vet
If there is any subset of the American population that President Donald Trump has a particular affinity for, it would be the men and women of law enforcement and the military, especially those veterans who’ve previously served and sacrificed for this great nation with honor.
That particular affinity for veterans was showcased once again on Wednesday when Trump personally reached out to a WWII-era Marine Corps veteran with a phone call to help celebrate his 100th birthday.
Breitbart reported that the president had a rather busy day on Wednesday, as he was in New York City at the United Nations building to meet with dozens of other world leaders to discuss innumerable complicated geopolitical affairs of varying degrees of importance.
Despite all that was on his plate, however, Trump found time during the day to place a call to Marine veteran Sam Nebesky in honor of his reaching the century mark — a call the elderly veteran was reportedly thrilled to receive, as was noted on a social media account managed on his behalf.

“Thank you President Donald Trump for taking the time to call this old Marine to wish me a happy 100th birthday today! I can’t believe it!” the post on Twitter read.
“Thank you for all you’re doing for our country & our nation’s veterans. You have made me happy & proud. I’ll never forget it! Sam,” the marine concluded.
Nebesky, like Trump himself, is a New Yorker who grew up in the Bronx and joined the military in 1943 at the height of World War II, where he served in the Pacific theater as a U.S. Marine until after the war was over.
He was stationed at the Marshall Islands before moving on to the island of Okinawa prior to spending time at the Japanese Yokosuka military base that was surrendered over to the U.S. following the conclusion of the war in 1945.
“I’m one of the lucky Marines. The day you said goodbye to your loved ones, you never knew if you would see them again,” Nebesky told Breitbart of his service. “Every man wanted to serve the country; it was our duty as Americans.”
Nebesky eventually moved to south Florida with his family in the 1980s, and has been reconnecting with remaining fellow veterans from the war through the Honor Flight program. He is also aided by a volunteer assistant through the South Florida Honor Flight named Kim Coulter, who has helped drum up widespread support for Nebesky in honor of his 100th birthday.
Aside from the call from the president, Nebesky also received a congratulatory call from the current Commandant of the Marine Corps, General Robert Neller.
Nebesky was so proud of the birthday greeting he received from Neller that he posted his own video greeting in reply.

As if calls from the president and Marine Corps Commandant weren’t enough, Nebesky was also an honored guest at a Miami Dolphins football game, where he got to pose for pictures with the cheerleader squad and — although he is largely confined to wheelchair at his advanced age — still managed to stand proudly for the playing of the national anthem.

This man, who has now lived for a century, served and sacrificed on behalf on his country during a time of great trouble, and no amount of thanks can ever truly express the immense gratitude most Americans feel toward him and those who served alongside him. But the great honor shown to him by President Trump, the Marine Corps Commandant and many others is perhaps as great a way to showcase that gratitude as there can be.
