Watch: Mexican Residents Furious After Caravan Invades Their Town -- Shout 'Trump Was Right!'
Want to call a caravan of migrants “an invasion?” Well, you must be sort of racist.
Wait, you’re a resident of Tijuana, Mexico? Well, um. You must be still mentally hostage to the colonizer. Or something.
Yes, apparently the residents of one of Mexico’s biggest border cities aren’t terribly happy about the arrival of a caravan of Central Americans in their environs, and they’re using language that no American politician would dare use.
One video circulating of the protests that have broken out in Tijuana shows a man with a microphone saying, “Donald Trump was right, this is an invasion! What Donald Trump said was correct: This is an invasion!”

The crowd, meanwhile, chants in Spanish: “Get out, Hondurans, we do not want you here. Get out, Hondurans, we do not want you here.”
According to Fox News, 3,000 caravan members have arrived at Tijuana in the past few days and have been met with a chilly reception.
“The majority of migrants, who have been on foot for more than a month, are sleeping on a dirt baseball field at an outdoor sports complex in Tijuana by the newly-fortified barbed wire fence that separates Mexico from the United States,” Fox reported.
“A truck parked on the street is providing showers for women, while the men are told to use newly established outdoor showers near the field.”
Tijuana Mayor Juan Manuel Gastelum, meanwhile, has been saying things that would make any politician here blush.
“Human rights should be reserved for righteous humans,” Gastelum said last week, calling them “bums.”
He’s also said that Tijuana’s 1.6 million residents should be able to hold a plebiscite to determine whether the migrants can stay.
The United States is supposedly processing roughly 100 claims per day for asylum from the members of the caravan, meaning any process to get them anywhere will be slow. The claims take a while to process and more individuals are doubtlessly on the way.
Officials say they’re expecting up to 10,000 caravan members, a burden the city can’t afford.
Honduras’ ambassador to Mexico, Alden Rivera, says he’s trying to secure funds to help deal with the caravan members.
“These are our people, we want to do what we can for them,” he said. “In Honduras, we respect human rights.”
Whether or not that respect will mollify the people of Tijuana, however, remains to be seen. At least now Mexico has a taste of what it’s like when the shoe is on the other foot.
