Watch Michael Knowles Crush Arrogant Michael Moore Wannabe Who Thinks He Knows Health Care
In a viral clip from a recent appearance for the Young Americas Foundation, Daily Wire pundit Michael Knowles managed to destroy a liberal who wanted to debate him on health care.
The clip involves a young man — clearly from the Michael Moore school of thought regarding our health care system — beginning by saying that hospitals won’t really treat the cause of patients’ illnesses if they don’t have insurance, leaving them to “continue to cycle until you die.”
Well, that’s a cheerily Dickensian view of things. Except, as Knowles pointed out, it’s not really accurate.
“Before we move on to that second point, I should like to point out that we have a robust social safety net for the elderly and the poor,” Knowles said. “And so one question would be why those people, if they can’t afford insurance and they haven’t been able to rectify their employment situation or whatever else is keeping it from them, aren’t on the very robust and generous Medicaid systems in this country?”
The young liberal responded by talking about Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s promise to “cut” social safety net programs.
“He said he’s going to cut them or he’s going to reform them?” Knowles shot back.
“Probably cut,” the liberal responded.
“If ifs and buts were candy and nuts we’d all have a Merry Christmas,” Knowles said. “We have to reform the entitlement programs because they’re unsustainable and they’re the driver of our debt and deficits. They’ll bankrupt the entire country. We already have a very high debt-to-GDP ratio. This isn’t going to be solved by taking a $100 tax refund out of middle-class pockets. This is going to be solved by reforming these massive programs that have grown wildly out of control.
“And that’s what adults are going to have to do if we’re going to be governed by adults.”
Knowles then went off on the “Medicare for all” crowd, deriding them as “one group of people who are going to give everything away (for) free.
“And you say, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, where are you going to get that $40 trillion? And she says, well, you know, I’m not the expert on these things. You don’t say? Truer words have never been spoken.
“And then you have another group that says, look, things cost money, and we’re going to have to deal seriously with these programs. I think that the American people are smart and they’re going to reward behaving like adults, especially as we have this childish idiocy at restaurants and at people’s homes, in the streets. That’s not how adults behave, and thankfully I think we’re headed toward a more adult politics.”
The young liberal wasn’t deterred, insisting that you would have more people uninsured under any reform plan.
“When did we say that we were going to kick people off of Medicaid or Medicare?” Knowles said. “Show me that proposal.”
The young man seemed to have a number of proposals in mind, although none were particularly concrete — or apparently extant. They all involved one thing, though: taking insurance away from people. After quite a bit of heated crosstalk, none of it particularly making sense, the young man asked what he would do if someone in Washington was about to take Medicare away from people about to turn 65.
“Well, I certainly wouldn’t elect you, because you’re going to take away my grandma’s Medicare,” a smiling Knowles quipped. “So I don’t like your proposal one little bit.”
The young man then said he’d like to explain it to everyone, to which Knowles said, “All right, where are you going to get that $40 trillion?”
And to that, a stunned silence.
That’s basically what the problem with “Medicare for all” boils down to: Where does the money come from? Where do we get all of that cash? Aside from dodgy theories involving the Pentagon, the left is silent.
And there’s a very good reason for that.
