Woman Gets Nasty Surprise When Dems Question Her Run for Office Based on Race, Sex: Accusation
The famous dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was that all people would be judged based on their character, not their skin color. That’s the ideal that he marched and ultimately died for, but some leftists are stuck 50 years in the past.
Sadly, it looks as if one’s race is still a major concern. That’s what Stephany Rose Spaulding recently told MSNBC while discussing her run for Senate.
While chatting with journalist Chris Jansing, the black candidate revealed that her own party seems to be obsessed with her skin color. Only in Trump’s America, liberals would probably respond.
But here’s the eye-opening part: Spaulding is a Democrat, and it’s others on the left who are apparently balking at her run.
“What do people say to you?” MSNBC’s Jansing asked during an interview with the candidate who wants to take on Republican Sen. Cory Gardner in Colorado.
“‘You know where you’re running?’ And I’m like, ‘Yes.’ ‘Do you know that you’re black?’ ‘Every day,'” Spaulding replied.
Unsure if she was understanding what the African-American candidate was saying, the MSNBC journalist asked for confirmation.
“The national Democrats have questioned you running as a black woman?” Jansing asked.
“Yes, yes,” Spaulding answered. “Especially in Colorado.”
According to The Washington Free Beacon, Jansing is the only black Democrat in the race against Sen. Gardner, the incumbent. That shouldn’t matter, but if she’s right, it seems the liberal party is fretting that her skin tone will make it impossible for her to win.
“Spaulding, 40, is a professor of women’s and ethnic studies at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs,” The Free Beacon reported.
“She faces off against former Obama diplomat Daniel Baer, former state senator Mike Johnston, former state House Democratic leader Alice Madden, former speaker of the state house Andrew Romanoff, and Colorado’s former U.S. attorney John Walsh. All those candidates are white,” The Free Beacon noted.
Now, we stress that this is a one-sided statement from Spaulding at this point. However, it seems unlikely the candidate would claim that Democrats at the national level are fixated on her skin color unless that was truly her experience. That leaves a lot of open questions. Here’s the biggest: At what point does the liberal obsession with race stop being “progressive” and turn once again into prejudice by any other name?

Spaulding may have stumbled upon an inconvenient truth about the modern Democratic party. More and more, its members see minorities as check boxes or virtue-signalling tokens, instead of overlooking skin tone to view all people as equals. Identity politics is an ugly business.
But maybe this shouldn’t be surprising, considering the Democratic party’s shameful past of opposing key civil rights legislation and climbing into bed with racist groups such as the KKK. Democrats would rather you just forget about that.
We’re not holding our breath for Spaulding to realize that she’s being used as a pawn by a party that sees her skin first and character second.
Maybe, though, incidents like the race-first response from national Democrats she described to MSNBC will make her pause and think twice about which party truly accepts individual diversity.
