Dad and Daughter Sing Adorable Version of 'My Girl' Together in Front of Mirror
Daddies and daughters. There’s just something uniquely special about these one-of-a-kind relationships.
You can see it on any father’s face, as he holds hands with the apple of his eye on her way to school. And when that little girl gets a prized piggyback ride, her eyes shine even brighter.
But the strength of this bond is more than just observational. Science suggests that children with actively engaged fathers are happier, even healthier.
For example, researchers from Princeton University studied 5,000 young people. Their findings suggest that losing a father early in life might actually raise one’s risk of various health complications down the line.
Or consider a 2012 study conducted by researchers at Pennsylvania State University. Findings indicate that children with involved fathers often demonstrate higher self-esteem.
Maybe that explains the enthusiastic response to an adorable Facebook video posted by Laura Caperton Richardson. It’s a short and simple snippet, but it certainly communicates volumes.
In the video, Richardson’s daughter, Keeton, stands on a counter top dressed in pink giraffe PJ’s. She’s supported by her doting daddy, who’s standing right behind her.
The duo decides to perform a delightful rendition of “My Girl.” This soulful and well-known tune was written by Smokey Robinson, and originally recorded by The Temptations.
After a couple cute false starts, Dad kicks things off with the opening verse. “I got sunshine,” he croons, and then cues his daughter with a few words from the next line.
“Clouuuuuudy day,” chimes in Keeton, holding hands with her father as she sways to the cheerful melody. And that’s about all the prompting this tiny performer needs.
Dad continues by introducing the first few words of each line. Then Keeton pipes up in her babyish falsetto, happily belting out the remaining lyrics herself.
“My girl,” she warbles, grinning into the mirror as Dad dances away right behind her. “Talkin ‘bout my girl, my girl.”
So what if she’s not 100-percent positive about every single word? When in doubt, she fills in whatever encouraging lyrics seem to fit best.
The important thing is that she’s grooving away to one of the all-time Motown greats. And her favorite guy is right there beside her.
Dad even throws in a few creative arm motions to reinforce the message. He has Keeton point to herself, then point to herself in the mirror. Yep, that’s truly his girl.
As the song itself proclaims so clearly, “I’ve got all the riches one man can claim.” And a charmed social media audience surely agrees — a devoted father is one of the wealthiest folks in the whole wide world.
