Dog Stays by Owner's Side in Backyard for 3 Days After 93-Year-Old Dies

Share

The loyalty of dogs has to be experienced to be understood. Sometimes it’s even stronger than the bonds we have with other people.

Robbie is a wheaton yellow Scotty who is the embodiment of loyalty. He’s 14, which is pretty old for a dog.

He’s gotten to the point where he likes to lie around most of the day, soaking up sun and lying on plush carpets. He may have been a boisterous young pup once, but those days are gone.

He’s got some scratches and dings, some of them more recent than others, but in general he’s in pretty good health and would love a new family to call his own.

Up until recently, that wasn’t an issue; Robbie was the beloved companion of another elderly gentleman, and the two were fast friends.

It was May when Robbie and his 93-year-old owner were in the yard, tending to the plants. They lived in a rural part of Columbia County, Wisconsin.

Because they were so secluded, when Robbie’s owner experienced heart problems and heat exhaustion, no one even knew anything was wrong.

By the time Robbie and his owner were found, the gentleman had passed away. For three days, Robbie kept watch and stayed by his friend’s side.

Robbie was dehydrated and had been attacked by ticks. He had some open wounds and sunburns, which suggested that he’d stood watch even in the blazing sun.

He was taken to a rescue, and then a foster home. He’s recovered, but his foster mom, Susan Jacoby, is impressed that he is such a survivor.

“I was like are you kidding me?” she said. “This dog was out there for three days, no water, no food.”

“He’s a very loyal dog. He’s a survivor and he’s just going to keep going. He’s a fighter.”

“He’s going to be a great dog for someone looking for a low key, low energy, no energy and very very loyal, loyal to a T, loyal to the end,” she concluded.

Older dogs aren’t readily adopted, especially when younger and healthier pups are available as well, but hopefully Robbie’s loyalty will be recognized and rewarded by another loving owner.
