Elderly Man Drops to One Knee To Propose to Wife of 63 Years All Over Again

Love that lasts a lifetime is certainly a rare treasure to behold. If you’ve ever wondered if good, old fashioned romance is a thing of the past, look no further than Donna and Karl Von Schwarz.

Though they’re both in their 80s, these two have been two peas in the same pod since their high school days. They married in 1956 and have stayed together through it all.

Sadly, Donna has faced some health issues. From open heart surgery to strokes and a brain bleed, the 85-year-old has seen her fair share of struggles, all within the course of one year.

Their granddaughter, Christina Von Schwarz, looks up to them and wanted to share their relationship with the world.

“They’re really just such amazing people, I’ve never met anyone like them,” Christina told WFAA. “They’re definitely something to strive for in a relationship.”

Through all the sickness, Karl has stayed faithful to his wife, still in love and still holding a heart that beats for one woman alone.

Karl wanted to show his wife that his lasting love hasn’t changed and Christina quickly jumped in to help her grandpa pull off the perfect surprise.

Does this couple inspire you?

The admiring granddaughter shared the excitement on Twitter.

“I’m about to just start a thread of my grandparents because they’re my favorite humans on the planet,” she wrote.

First, she showed off her grandma’s hairstyle — done by Christina’s aunt. This man’s reaction to his wife’s new hairdo is priceless.

Next, she featured some photos of the couple side-by-side, holding hands and cuddling under a blanket. They are too adorable!

Karl’s smile is genuine and Donna looks as if there is no place she’d rather be than right next to her husband and best friend.

In the end, Karl had a promise to keep. According to WFAA, he told his wife he would buy her a new engagement ring if she pulled through her heart surgery.

It certainly gave her some good motivation! To make it official, he even got down on one knee at J.C. Penny.

“After over 65 years of marriage my grandpa got her a new ring and proposed to her again,” Christina tweeted.

What a truly inspiring couple. I think it’s safe to say their love is something most of us strive for. Congratulations, Karl and Donna!

We pray for Donna’s health, and that she and Karl live the rest of their days knowing what they have is a rare gift indeed.
