The headlines seemed to indicate that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth wanted troops on the ground in Iran.

Hegseth’s words indicated otherwise. But you likely wouldn’t have known that fact if you were getting your news from the mainstream media.

Take the headlines from major outlets on Monday after Hegseth’s media briefing at the Pentagon. The Hill: “Hegseth, Trump leave door open for boots on the ground in Iran.” The U.K. Guardian: “Hegseth says US won’t get ‘bogged down’ in Iran – but doesn’t rule out sending troops.” The Independent: “Trump won’t rule out boots on the ground in Iran. Middle East experts say he’s ‘grasping at straws.’”
