Massive: Grassroots Movement Springs Up to Make James Woods Calif.'s Next Governor
Conservative actors have always had a pretty good record of getting into the governor’s mansion in California, albeit with mixed results when they get there. Sure, you have Ronald Reagan, but you also have Arnold Schwarzenegger as well.
However, the point is that they got there, which is more than we can say for most California Republicans in this day and age. Now, radio host and conservative activist Melanie Morgan is starting a grassroots movement to put Hollywood icon and legendary Twitterer James Woods in that very august company.
In an online petition started Tuesday on her site Media Equalizer, Morgan beseeches Woods to run in the Golden State’s gubernatorial contest later this year to counter the likely Democrat nominee, former San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.
“James Woods, governor of California? Why not? The Golden State has a long history of electing leaders from the deep end of thespian pool,” the petition reads.
“From Ronald Reagan to Arnold Schwarzenegger, Californian voters actually seem to enjoy casting ballots for Republican actors.”
Since Newsom is “not appearing to give a damn about anything beyond naked political ambition,” Morgan wonders, “why not draft someone far more intelligent than any predecessor in that office?”
As for Woods, Morgan notes that he’s a Mensa member and “a former Catholic altar boy who aced his SATs, was accepted to MIT, but dropped out to pursue acting.
“For eight episodes, he played himself on ‘Family Guy,’ in addition to hundreds of other roles as villains or heroes,” the petition notes. “Woods enjoyed a long career that only recently has ground to a halt because of his conservative political views.
“He’s since become an Internet sensation due to his brilliant, concise and downright scrappy way of summarizing a political moment, right to its essence.”
And indeed, Woods wins the internet on a regular basis:

End #DACA completely, build the wall, defund sanctuary cities, end chain migration, enforce voter ID, and deport all lawbreakers. Democrats never listened to us when they were in control. Wake up, Republicans. You have the power. Use it, for God’s sake! https://t.co/ANz3rIJUrw

So, could Woods be just what California needs? Morgan thinks so — or at least thinks he’s the best chance to avoid Gov. Gavin Newsom, which somehow manages to sound more dire to these ears than Gov. Jerry Brown.
“Californians deserve a choice in this year’s crucial election and it’s a mistake to allow Gavin Newsom to cakewalk right into the governorship without a fight,” Morgan said, according to the Washington Times.
We could certainly think of worse choices. And, hey — I seem to recall another Twitter icon doing pretty well in an election just a few years back …
