HGTV Is Rebooting 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' and They've Already Started Casting!
Home makeover shows are always good fun. While shows like “Fixer Upper” come to mind when we think of home makeovers, many of us will remember another show that pulled at every heartstring.
“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” first aired on ABC in 2003. From episode one it was clear this show was going to be different — special.
We laughed, we cried, we connected with the stories and the families as we watched each week. Ty Pennington brought personality to the seasons while viewers sat at home and dreamed they might one day win a home makeover of their own.
If you were ever one of those viewers, now’s your chance. HGTV plans to air 10 new episodes in 2020, according to Variety, and your family might just be exactly what the producers are looking for.
HGTV announced the casting call is on for a reboot of the popular series. “With the return of ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,’ we’re looking for deserving people who are on a quest for their perfect home,” the site says.
The best part? You don’t have to be a current homeowner to qualify for the show. Renters in hopes of one day settling into their dream home are eligible, too!
Particularly, the show is searching for good stories. They want people who have served their communities and who can bring inspiration to the screen.
While we don’t know if Pennington will return as the veteran host, or if HGTV will bring someone new to the saw table, we do know this show’s return will undoubtedly be epic — and HGTV is the perfect network to pull it off.
“We like to come up with our own formats and our own ideas,” chief lifestyle brands officer for Discovery Inc., Kathleen Finch, told Variety.
“But every now and then, there’s something out there that just makes so much sense form a brand perspective that we have to do it.”
“‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ is such an iconic show,” she went on. “It’s an emotional story centered around a house. There is real drama, and real stakes around a home being rebuilt.”
New-home hopefuls are encouraged to apply at www.emhe.tv. You must be 18 years or older and if you already have your dream home, you can nominate another deserving family to be on the show.
We can’t wait to see what HGTV does with the reboot! You can bet we’ll be watching and waiting for the official air date to be released. Until then, we wish you the best if you plan to apply.
