An engagement ring symbolizes a promise and the hope for a future with the one you love. It’s not about the price of the ring.
Rather, the heart behind the token of love is what truly matters. Which is why 19-year-old Mateo Rincon from San Leandro, California saved for months to buy his girlfriend the perfect ring.
“When it was finally time I couldn’t stop smiling the whole day,” Rincon shared with Dion Lim of ABC 7 News.

Sadly, his smile turned into a frown and even tears when Rincon’s now-fiancée, 18-year-old Yessenia Trujillo, had the ring stolen at from the Jack in the Box where she works.
“It happened so fast, I didn’t expect it,” Trujillo shared. Lim demonstrated how Trujillo’s bag was stolen off a chair in the brief moments while her back was turned.
Because the teenager isn’t permitted to wear jewelry while working with food, she had placed her ring in the bag for safe keeping.

Police have been investigating the incident and the couple pleaded for the thief to return what was wrongfully stolen.
Sadly, the ring has still not been returned since it was taken on October 7. This could have been a story without a happily ever after.
But, thankfully, the right Good Samaritan saw this couple’s story and decided to give back in the biggest way possible.
ABC 7’s Dion Lim was on the scene again, but instead of reporting a crime, she was playing part in what was soon to be a huge celebration.

Khoren Ekmekjian is the Good Samaritan. Oh, AND he’s the owner of Ritz Jewelers. “It was touching for me, so it’s the least I can do,” he told ABC 7.

When they found themselves in the shop with a replica of Trujillo’s original ring, they stood in awe at the kindness of a stranger.
Rincon even got down on one knee and proposed all over again. It was a sweet moment for both the couple and their Good Samaritan.

“Just the generosity, out of nowhere from a total stranger, it’s amazing,” the couple shared with ABC 7. “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
This just goes to show that good people really are everywhere. One simple act of kindness makes all the difference. We wish Mateo and Yessenia the best in their new life together.
