Justice: International Child Porn Ringleader Beaten to Death in Prison

Share

It should speak volumes that even among hardened criminals, any scumbag who would dare sexually exploit or abuse a child is at the very bottom of the moral hierarchy.

Few people, if any, deserve prison more than those who would ever do that to a child.

To be fair, they probably deserve more than just prison. Lowlifes like Larry Nassar, who sexually abused hundreds of women during his time as a Team USA gymnastics doctor, deserve every last drop of prison justice they get.

That being said, Nassar was just one monster, working independently.

When you’re a convicted ringleader of a child pornography network? You may have somehow found a level even lower than that of Nassar.

As the New York Post reported, Christian Maire reached that lower level after the FBI discovered his role in an international child pornography ring that was known on the internet as “The Bored Group.”

The Binghamton, New York, man was killed in a beating in a federal prison in Michigan last week.

Now, I’m not one to gleefully discuss another man’s death, but it’s hard to drum up any sympathy for Maire.

As the Post noted, Maire and his associates “posed as adolescent boys on teenage dating sites and convinced young girls to strip, masturbate and perform other sex acts via webcam.”

According to The Detroit News, “The Bored Group” had an interest in girls whose ages ranged from (excuse me while I vomit) infants to teenagers.

For some sickeningly inexplicable reason, they would also convince some of their victims to cut themselves on camera.

Making matters even worse is the fact that Maire was the father of two children. It’s utterly inconceivable for me to understand why a man would take any pleasure in this, let alone a man who raised children.

Given all of that, it’s hard to feel even a little sorry for Maire when he began tearfully addressing U.S. District Judge Stephen Murphy during his sentencing last month.

“I’ve shattered so many lives,” Maire told Murphy, The Detroit News reported. “I never thought I could sink this low. I apologize to all of my victims. I took advantage of your youth and trust and put my own selfishness above your dignity.”

Maire was sentenced to serve 40 years behind bars. He was taken to a federal prison in Milan, Michigan.

He was attacked on Friday and pronounced dead several hours later at the hospital.

“It’s a horrible tragedy and it seems something like this should have been able to be avoided,” Maire’s lawyer, Mark Kriger, told The Detroit News.

One person who actually predicted this?

One of Maire’s victims.

“He’s gonna get the hell beat out of him,” a 20-year-old victim told The Detroit News at the time of Maire’s sentencing.

He got worse than that and it’s not a massive surprise.
