TODAY Show Host Chokes Up While Telling Secret to Couple on Adoption List For 2 Years

Share

Stacy and Frank Parrado were young and in love when they got married. They knew they wanted to become parents someday but felt no rush.

In their twenties, they wanted to enjoy some time as a married couple before adding children to their family. Then five years ago, the time felt right to start trying to expand their family.

The couple was emotionally ready, but physically, one of them never would be. It took a fertility specialist to figure out why Stacy hadn’t become pregnant yet.

Frank had cancer as a young child. A long-term effect of the chemotherapy treatment he underwent at 6 years old was infertility.

“We have a really strong relationship and so we knew that it was just going to take some time for us to get past that.

And it’s almost like we feel like a loss in some way when they tell you can’t do something that you wanted to do,” Stacy explained on the TODAY show to co-anchor Hoda Kotb.

The couple was under the impression that they were invited on the show to share their story about hoping to adopt.

Adoption was already close to Stacy’s heart. Her mother and aunt were adopted, and Stacy and Frank decided they would fill out paperwork in the month of November.

The following May, they were approved, but the wait continued as they sat on the adoption list for nearly two years.

Kotb remarked, “Waiting’s hard.” The host herself has experienced the emotions involved in the adoption process firsthand as an adoptive mother to her daughter Haley Joy Kotb.

Therefore, it seems fitting that Kotb was the one to let the couple in on a secret that would change their world.

She had the perfect moment to finally let it out after Stacy explained, “We know that it’s going to happen, and it’s going to happen when it’s meant for us.”

“Well, I think the day is today,” Kotb replied, going on to say that they had been matched to a beautiful baby girl.

As Kotb watched Stacy and Frank’s emotional reaction, she couldn’t help but get choked up. “I am so happy for you,” she said as she embraced the couple in tears.

The couple met their daughter, Addison Emily, for the first time just one week later.

They look forward to surrounding her with love and happiness, overjoyed to finally have their baby in their arms.
