Best Ways To Observe National Making Life Beautiful Day June 11

Share

It’s a holiday that might not likely be on your radar, but perhaps it should be: On June 11, America will celebrate National Making Life Beautiful Day. What is National Making Life Beautiful Day?

Well, according to the National Day Calendar, which recognizes it, the day was originally “submitted by Apriori Beauty and declared by the Registrar of National Day Calendar in April 2015. The date was chosen because Apriori Beauty launched their mission to help men and women look and feel beautiful with their availability of their internal and external approach to beauty on June 11, 2009.”

However, while it may have started as a simple promotion, it’s actually moved beyond that in the nine years that it’s been celebrated. After all, we all need a reason to celebrate making life beautiful. If you need some inspiration, here are a few ways you can celebrate:

Way #1 to celebrate Making Life Beautiful Day: Make your community beautiful.

Of all of the ways to celebrate National Making Life Beautiful Day, this seems to be one of the most popular. After all, how many of us really take time out to help make our community look and feel better? For instance, take Banker’s Insurance of Florida. Last year, they partnered with Habitat for Humanity in Pinellas County, Florida, to build homes for the needy.

You don’t have to build a house, either. There are plenty of ways you can make your community beautiful. Maybe partner with your family and pick up some trash from the side of the highway. Or maybe you can organize an event where you do some landscaping in your local park. There are plenty of things you can do to beautify your community, particularly if you have special skills in that department — if you’re a landscaper or a carpenter, for instance. Any way that you do it, you can’t go wrong by helping make your community more beautiful.

Way #2 to celebrate Making Life Beautiful Day: Celebrate individuals or organizations who are helping make people beautiful.

Remember, beauty is both inner as well as outer. In fact, in the end, inner beauty is what matters most. And on National Making Life Beautiful Day, individuals and organizations making a difference deserve to be celebrated.

We’ve already mentioned the work that Habitat for Humanity is doing in their community, and that’s far from the only organization doing good work in your community. Take the women of the Winter Valley senior housing community in Milton, Massachusetts. For over a year now, according to the Christian Science Monitor, a dozen of them have been meeting around a table where they crochet plastic bags into water-resistant mats for homeless people. Not only does it reduce waste, but it adds in just a small way to the dignity of the homeless. First they started off by asking for plastic bags from the community on Facebook and get them dropped off by the boxful by local residents. “I think (we’ll stop crocheting only) when they ban plastic bags,” said Judy O’Brien, one of the locals who’s been working with the group.

Do you know other groups trying to help out the homeless? Maybe some people who help provide suits for jobless individuals going for interviews? Or maybe someone who helps with adult literacy issues? Those are the people who help make all of us a little more beautiful by helping out their community. This Making Life Beautiful Day, you can help them out by volunteering, helping their cause or simply giving them a shout-out on social media. It may not seem like much, but whatever you can do can make all of the difference.

Way #3 to celebrate Making Life Beautiful Day: Accomplish a goal of your own that will help make life a little bit more beautiful.

On Making Life Beautiful Day, the most important message is that making life beautiful begins with us. And while charity is a good thing, we have to wonder if perhaps there are other things we could be doing in our lives to make them more beautiful — especially when it comes to being the best versions of ourselves.

A lot of our deeply-held goals often get subordinated to work the older that we get. Perhaps you wanted to be a novelist, but simply didn’t follow up on it because you didn’t think the money was in it. Perhaps you wanted to be a photographer or take up the guitar. Maybe you wanted to learn things like woodworking or painting. Or perhaps you just wanted to run a 10k.

Remember, when we follow through on our goals, we don’t just do it for us. You’re not playing guitar for yourself, after all. When you make an intricate table or complete an intriguing novel, you make something intriguing that makes people’s lives a little brighter. When you complete a 10k, you show those around you the power of discipline. As long as your focus is on making things beautiful, you can’t go wrong.

So, on June 11, take that first run. Open up the word processor and start outlining your magnum opus. Or maybe you can go to the local bookstore and take out a book on woodworking for beginners. The important part is that you take the first step.

Way #4 to celebrate Making Life Beautiful Day: Listen.

One of the most important things we often forget is that we can also do something by sitting absolutely still and being totally quiet. When you listen to somebody — really listen, without any agenda or ulterior motives — you can help make life more beautiful. It sounds so simple, but when you get down to it, people want to be heard — need to be heard, in fact. It isn’t difficult to take some time for someone important around you in order to make their lives a little bit better.

Way #5 to celebrate Making Life Beautiful Day: Start at home.

Finally, it’s important to acknowledge that the second-most important way you can help make life beautiful aside from working on yourself is to focus on your home. If you’re a family person, share some time with them. Set aside the night of June 11 to go out to dinner at your favorite restaurant — or perhaps just cook at home, like this mother did.

And if you’re not, you can still start by beautifying your living area. Maybe put up some new decorations, put on a fresh coat of paint or plant some flowers. Or if you skipped out on spring cleaning while it was the beginning of spring (hey, we all get a little bit busy from time to time), why not do it before it summer hits? After all, June 11 is still technically spring, and we won’t tell anyone you waited.

There’s no real wrong way to celebrate National Making Life Beautiful Day, as long as you do something and keep focused on making life beautiful. It’s a wide-open day — one that all of us can use to make things just a little bit brighter for us and everyone around us. Here’s to another Making Life Beautiful Day, as well as many more to come!
