3 Months After Adopting Dog He Didn’t Want, He & Pup Pose in Matching T-Shirts
Animals have the strangest effect on humans. The smallest yawn or faintest whimper can be enough to bring any animal-lover to their knees.
But what about those who are a little more hesitant to accept the love animals unconditionally give? Can their hearts be changed?
If you ask Valdir Carleto, he would answer with a resounding yes and be able to give you his own personal testimony.
When Valdir’s son, Vinícius, came to him and asked if they could rescue a dog from the local shelter. Valdir responded with a firm, “No.”
He said he just didn’t want a dog in the house.
But Vinícius had another plan. He figured out how to get his mother to meet the special pup he thought would be the perfect fit for the family. The dog’s name was Pitoco.
As soon as Pitoco and his mom met, he knew that he would be able to take the sweet puppy home.
Valdir’s firm disapproval eventually caved in once his wife met little Pitoco.
“He accepted Pitoco, but didn’t think much of him,” Vinícius said of his father. But, slowly, his indifference began to transform.
Little Pitoco was winning him over day by day, even if he didn’t want to admit it.
“Every time my dad came home stressed from work he got distracted by the dog and left the stress behind,” Vinícius said.
“Then one day I came home and saw my dad with Pitoco in the yard. They were running around and playing. I never imagined it was possible.”
Then, one day, Vinícius came home to see his father, the one who was originally so against letting a dog into the family, wearing a t-shirt with Pitoco’s face on it.
To make the moment even better, Pitoco was also wearing a shirt with Valdir’s face on it. There was no denying it; Valdir loved spunky, little Pitoco.
“It seems dogs understand how we are feeling,” Vinícius said. “And their companionship allows us to escape the daily stresses of life. That’s a very important thing.”
That’s exactly the kind of transformational companionship that Pitoco showed Valdir and it only took three months. Their story shows just how much an animal’s persistent love can change someone.
