Fixer Upper's Chip & Joanna Gaines Announce Their Return to Television

Share

It was a sad day when the last episode of “Fixer Upper” aired on HGTV.

It seemed like the world was ending. Ok, maybe that’s a tad dramatic, but there has definitely been a void in the home improvement show world since April 2018.

I mean, could any other home improvement show really stack up to the Gaines family with Chip’s antics, Joanna’s sweetness, and their children’s adorableness?

I think not.

Since then, the wholesome family has welcomed a new baby into the family, released two new books from Joanna, and graced us with a line of home decor accessible through stores like Target and Living Spaces.

Even though flipping through the Magnolia Cookbook, watching for new pictures of baby Crew, and binging reruns of “Fixer Upper” on Netflix helped fill the void temporarily, some wondered if Chip and Joanna would ever decide to join us again on screen.

Well friends, we just got our answer.

Chip and Joanna were guests on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” on Nov. 9, 2018.

The dynamic duo was on the show to talk about and endorse Joanna’s new interior design book, “Homebody,” but of course not without Chip’s goofy personality shining through first.

One could say that he was fangirling … just a little bit.

After Chip had some time to process the fact that he was on “The Tonight Show” and found a few souvenirs, Fallon began asking them about their departure from television.

“TV’s a tough business and we came into this whole thing sort of shock and awe. We had never had any inspiration to be on television,” Chip began. “So when you step into this universe, it takes you a little bit to get your feet under you, to say the least.”

“And I’d say after five years we really realized we really wanted to take a step back and just kind of really focus on our marriage, focus on our family, and just kind of catch our breath, you know?”

Are you excited for the Gaines family to return to TV?

Joanna piped in immediately after and made sure little Crew was also mentioned in their reasons for the break.

Then Fallon asked the burning question in the room, “Would you guys ever return to TV?”

Despite his wife’s discouragement, Chip took the opportunity to share some big news.

“We signed a non-disclosure and it said quote unquote you can tell your mother but that’s it,” he told Fallon and the audience.

“So Mom, I just wanted to make a quick announcement: We are coming back to television.”

The crowd, unsurprisingly, erupted into applause.

Later the Magnolia Instagram confirmed the wonderful news.

“@chipgaines got a little excited and spilled the beans on a potential project that we are working on with @discoveryinctv. This isn’t a done deal quite yet but we are all really excited about what we’ve got in mind: our own cable network! We want to create a space on television unlike anything that exists today. A lifestyle channel aimed at inspiring and looking at the world in a new way. Stay tuned…”

John Marsicano, a representative from Magnolia shared the vision of the potential new network with Country Living.

“We’re excited to share that we are currently in the early stages of talking with Discovery about a lifestyle-focused media network for Magnolia,” he said. “The details surrounding this opportunity remain a work in progress, but together, our hope is to build a different kind of platform for unique and family-friendly content.”

“You are going to get to see the kids grow up,” Chip said on “The Tonight Show.” “You are going to see us, well maybe a six-month delay like the rest of the world, but we are excited to be back!”

Rejoice Gaines fans! Our long, seven-month waiting has ended!

What do you hope to see on the new network? More of Clint and his woodworking skills? Maybe even a cooking show with the older Gaines children?
