Man Abandons Dog in Dunkin Donuts Parking Lot, Leaves Note Attached to Collar
Dogs have long been dubbed loyal “best friends” to humankind. That’s probably because our canines remain faithfully by our side, regardless of our personal faults and failings.
Perhaps that’s why social media is in an absolute uproar over a defenseless dog recently abandoned at a Santa Fe Dunkin’ Donuts.
Evidently, a man drove his dog to the local establishment on St. Francis Drive, then left her in the parking lot before proceeding inside to buy himself some coffee.
Fortunately, surveillance cameras were fully operational and captured the whole disconcerting incident. Footage shows a male driver opening the door of a dark-colored Chevy Venture style minivan, then letting the dog out around 7:30 a.m. local time.
The docile pooch proceeded to follow the man right to the entrance.
He shut the door in the dog’s face, came back outside with his coffee, got into his vehicle, and left the unleashed animal behind in the parking lot.
According to sources at the scene, while waiting for his order the man even asked a Dunkin’ Donuts employee what was going on with the loose dog outside. This was evidently a move designed to suggest the canine wasn’t his.
After the man drove away, the confused and abandoned dog was left to roam the parking lot aimlessly. She was later discovered to have a scrap of paper tied to her neck.
The paper was actually a note hand-written in stark red letters proclaiming, “I’m free. I’m having babies.”
Santa Fe police are now searching for the individual who left this dog to wander alone beside a busy thoroughfare.
Existing surveillance footage does not, unfortunately, include a clear shot of the license plate number.
While authorities continue asking witnesses to come forward with any information, the dog has been taken in by the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society.
She’s under the care of licensed veterinarians, who have yet to confirm whether she’s newly pregnant or suffering from some type of uterine infection.
During this observation interval, the sweet pup is not available for adoption. But the shelter staff reports that she’s stable and doing amazingly well.
“She actually participated in one of our playgroups today and did great,” reads a recent Facebook update. “She loves people!”
And judging from the number of concerned inquiries the shelter has been receiving, people adore her right back. The Facebook page goes on to declare, “It’s people like you that care and truly make a difference in the life of these animals.”
