See the Beautiful Photographs Captured of a Rare White Reindeer

Share

We know about Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen. We see Rudolph with his red nose everywhere we go in the month of December.

But it turns out that a glowing nose is not the rarest of reindeer characteristics. One photographer caught quite a magical sight while hiking in northern Norway.

And no, he didn’t film a test run of Santa’s Christmas Eve flight, though Norway is looking a lot like the North Pole this time of year with its below freezing temperatures.

Instead what this snap-happy man discovered is something rarely seen, and might’ve been missed altogether since it blended in with the snowy landscape.

But 24-year-old Mads Nordsveen has a keen eye and couldn’t be fooled by the rare white reindeer he happened upon.

“He almost disappeared into the snow!” the Oslo native wrote on Instagram. The white on white image is truly striking!

Have you ever seen a reindeer?

I was walking in the mountains looking for nice landscapes for my travel photography when out of nowhere I saw this wonderful little creature,” Nordsveen told Caters News Agency.

“He came very close to me and we looked at each other straight in the eyes. He was quite relaxed when he saw that I was calm and friendly. It was almost as if he posed for the camera.”

This stunning creature was quite the find! According to New York Daily News, the last reported sighting of one of these creatures was in 2016.

While some might mistake these creatures for albino beasts, this isn’t the case at all, according to BBC.

“Their unusual appearance is caused by a genetic condition that strips the pigment from their fur, but not albinism,” BBC says.

Whatever the cause, these beautiful white-furred creatures are certainly incredible finds in creation. Some traditions in Scandinavia claim seeing a white reindeer is good luck.

We simply see the sighting as a sweet gift — one we will treasure throughout the season and for years to come.
