Woman Selected for Musical Chairs on 'Ellen', Takes Off Her Blindfold to Surprise Proposal
Many little girls grow up dreaming about their future wedding. From the flowers and venue to the proposal, most people have some idea of what they hope their special moments will look like.
For a 27-year-old San Diego resident, dreams and reality collided on a recent episode of Ellen Degeneres‘ hit daytime talk show.
Kailan Chidester was in the audience on the April 25 episode of “Ellen” when she was selected to participate in what she believed to be just another round of “Blindfolded Musical Chairs.” Chidester, a massive fan of the show, was visibly ecstatic.
She and 4 other contestants were then blindfolded and assigned a dance for when the music started playing. When Degeneres assigned Kailan the “twerk” and asked if she knew how, Kailan’s reply elicited laughter from the audience: “I’ll figure it out!”
Once Kailan and the other contestants had their blindfolds on, the music began. Instead of dancing, however, Degeneres and the other contestants all quickly moved the seats off stage as Kailan continued to dance, unaware that anything was happening.
Behind her, the screen began to fill in the audience on what was happening. “This is Kailan” the first screen said. “All of the other contestants work for me.” The screen went on to explain that they had a “huge surprise for Kailan.”
Degeneres then brought Kailan’s boyfriend Dean onstage, eliciting screams and cheers from the audience! Despite the increase in excitement in the room, Kailan kept on dancing.
As icing on the cake, both Kailan and Dean’s families had been flown in as a surprise, and were waiting behind the screen.
When the music finally stopped, Kailan scrambled for a moment before Degeneres helped her stand and had her remove the blindfold. There in front of her was her Prince Charming. The audience screamed and cheered as Kailan screamed and began to cry, telling her boyfriend “I love you so much!”
“Ever since, I’ve been looking at those eyes and just falling more and more in love each day,” Dean said before he dropped down on one knee. “Kailan, will you marry me?”
The answer was of course, YES!
Degeneres then brought the couple’s families out to surprise Kailan and celebrate. This was not the last surprise, however.
After the commercial break, Degeneres announced to the couple that as a wedding gift, the company Shutterfly was giving them a check for $20,000 to help with the cost of the wedding.
After the proposal, Kailan and Dean went with their families to Universal Studios to celebrate.
Kailan posted about the experience a few days later on Facebook, saying “We are still in shock and couldn’t be happier that we get to spend forever together.” This was truly a moment she will never forget!
