LiAngelo Ball openly mocks China shoplifting scandal in new ad
The NBA draft is Thursday, and barring something totally unforseen, LiAngelo Ball will not hear his name called.
Despite LaVar Ball endlessly bragging about how great his son is, the simple fact is LiAngelo Ball wasn’t considered a real prospect before heading to UCLA last season.
Getting arrested in China for stealing several pairs of designer sunglasses certainly didn’t help his cause.
And apparently, neither did a few prolific scoring games while playing professionally in Lithuania.
Last week, Ball worked out for the world champion Warriors, and said he’s matured since the shoplifting incident.
That’s a closed chapter in my book,” Ball said ”I don’t get too much slack on that, so I’m just looking forward to the draft. I just keep moving forward.”
Even if you want to give the kid a break, he then appears in a Foot Locker commercial that doesn’t do anything to put the incident in his rear-view mirror.
The spot is for “One and Done” T-shirts being sold by Foot Locker, and it’s something of a parody of cheesy infomercials.
When Ball says the shirts are “only” $29.99 each, the host suggests that price makes them “an absolute steal” — as the camera cuts to Ball, who acts as if he is none too happy with the reference.
The host tries to make things better, only to say “the price is so good, it must be criminal.”
Maybe LaVar Ball is telling his son to grab as much attention as possible, because it doesn’t seem there’s any way he’s getting drafted.
So far, we know he worked out with Golden State, and of course, the Lakers, where his brother Lonzo is the starting point guard.
Los Angeles, you’ll remember, is where loudmouth LaVar declared that Lonzo, LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball would lead the Lakers to a championship.
In fact, the eldest Ball says the purple and gold only need to add LeBron James and “Gelo” to win it all next year.
“You got to have that dead-eye shooter on the side that’s just going to be like, ‘You know what? We going to win. We going to stop people and we going to win,” Ball said in explaining why adding his son is just as critical as adding James.
Considering LiAngelo Ball didn’t even get invited to the NBA Draft Combine, his role in helping an NBA team win a championship isn’t likely to happen.
But once Thursday’s draft is over, you can bet we haven’t heard the last of LiAngelo Ball and his NBA “potential.”
His father will make sure of that.
