Arrogant Michelle Obama Claims She's Still the First Lady, Classy Melania Totally Ignores
The arrogance is appalling.
Almost 18 months after the American electorate rejected her husband’s chosen successor for the presidency, and more than a year after she left the White House, Michelle Obama stood on a stage in Philadelphia Wednesday and granted herself a title that doesn’t exist.
But the uproar she stirred on social media was plenty real enough.
In a speech before about 8,000 students who are heading to college after high school, Obama declared herself the “forever first lady,” claiming a moral authority she could barely handle when she actually was in the White House trying to force-feed garbage to American school students.
Obama’s declaration took place at 2018 College Signing Day, an event she started in 2014 to celebrate students who are pursuing education beyond high school.
“I know you have everything it takes to succeed,” she told her audience. “I know that you are me, and if I can be standing here as your forever first lady, then you can do anything you put your mind to. So, remember this moment when you’re out there.”
Obama’s statement got a cheer from the crowd — not really a surprise given the context — but it was still a troubling moment.
The “first lady” in American politics isn’t a constitutional role, but it’s one that has been carved out over time by the spouses of American presidents who’ve generally respected the office their husband has attained, and acted as the indispensable social arm of the commander in chief.
Just as the United States has only one president at a time, it has only one first lady. And right now, that first lady is a former fashion model, a Slovenian immigrant who speaks five languages, and by all appearances is a devoted wife and mother.
Her name is also Melania Trump.
The real first lady’s office has ignored Michelle Obama’s idiotic declaration so far — Melania has more class in her little finger than the former Michelle Robinson has accumulated in a lifetime of liberal politics. But social media users weren’t nearly so restrained.

According to the Huffington Post, “forever first lady” was a nickname Obama had been given by the host of the event — who must be a bootlicker of the first order –as well as by some infatuated liberals online.
But sycophants are free to say whatever they want. And if there are Americans benighted enough to wish that Barack Obama was going to remain president forever, and Michelle Obama would stay first lady, it’s not a crime to be idiotic … or insane.
However, a woman who has actually held the title of first lady should know better. In fact, before Michelle Obama, they did know better.
But Obama is different. She’s the spouse of a man who accomplished less than any of his predecessors before winning the White House, and then did more damage than his predecessors once he was inside.
She’s the former first lady who turned a ceremonial post into a lightning rod of criticism by her insistence on using it for the kind of authoritarian government Americans despise. (It doesn’t get much more authoritarian than trying to decide what people can feed their kids.)
And now she claims to be some kind of “forever first lady” in the minds of Americans?
The arrogance really is appalling.
