Painful Vid: Omarosa Cuts Interview Short After Struggling to Get Story Straight

Her book is called “Unhinged,” and after this “Today” show appearance, a lot of viewers might think she was talking about herself.

Omarosa Manigault-Newman, the former “Apprentice” contestant who joined candidate Donald Trump’s successful presidential campaign and served for a year in the Trump White House before being fired, has come across in recent interviews as nothing short of a woman scorned who is bent on revenge.

She has been making the media rounds in order to promote her new tell-all book, which makes a number of unverified claims against the president and members of his staff and seems to be tailor-made to fit the preconceived notions of the anti-Trump left.

Fox News reported that Manigault-Newman appeared Monday on NBC’s “Today” show with host Savannah Guthrie to promote her book and play an audio recording of an alleged phone call she had with Trump the day after she was fired.

However, just moments after she had told Guthrie she had “all the time you need” to answer questions, Manigault-Newman  cited the length of time of the interview to abruptly cut it short after being caught in a rather obvious contradiction.

In the taped conversation with Trump, alleged to have occurred the day after she was fired, it seemed as though Trump had no knowledge of what had happened, which Manigault-Newman suggested was evidence that Chief of Staff John Kelly — who personally fired her and whom she holds an obvious grudge against — is secretly running the White House.

Guthrie attempted to ask if Manigault-Newman believed Trump had been lying in that phone call, but Manigault-Newman avoided issuing a direct response to that query and shifted the focus back toward Kelly and an unknown “they” whom Trump mentioned as running the “big operation” at the White House.

Guthrie continued to try and return the focus to Trump, which prompted Manigault-Newman to state, “Savannah, slow down. I’m gonna (answer) your question, don’t worry, I’m here. I’ve got all the time you need. You don’t have to ask 10 questions in one second. It’s okay.”

But Manigault-Newman continued to avoid Guthrie’s questions, particularly a series of questions about how she had managed to record her conversation with Kelly in the secure Situation Room about her termination. She dismissed a question about “being coy” by claiming she was “being very clear here,” even as she opaquely danced away from providing direct answers to any questions.

Do you think Omarosa Manigault-Newman has destroyed her own credibility?

Shortly after that, Guthrie steered the conversation toward Manigault-Newman’s assertion that Trump is a racist and has used the “N-word” on tape previously, and that is when things got really awkward.

Guthrie played a clip of an interview Manigault-Newman did right after she was fired in which she stated with no uncertainty that Trump was most definitely NOT a racist. Asked about the disparity in answers between then and now, Manigault-Newman claimed she had simply been “cautious” in those days following her termination as she had felt threatened by Kelly and others.

Suddenly, time became an issue for Manigault-Newman, as she declared, “You know that we have an interview right after this. I know you want to go with more time … you see the time.” In reply to Guthrie’s professed ignorance of the time, Manigault-Newman said, “You know that it’s a seven-minute interview. Now we’re at 10.”

Guthrie shuffled the papers in front of her and revealed that she had plenty more questions for Manigault-Newman if she could stick around for a few more minutes, but Manigault-Newman said with a smile, “I’m not afraid, but I do … I have an interview right after this with someone else.”

You can watch the entire bizarre interview — in which Manigault-Newman repeatedly plugs her book instead of answering questions — right here:

What was most likely supposed to be a friendly interview with softball questions intended to make Trump look bad turned into a combative scene that reduced an irritable and smug Manigault-Newman’s already-suffering credibility even further.

The assertions put forward by Manigault-Newman against Trump and Kelly were barely believable in the first place. Now, they’re largely laughable in light of her shifty behavior paired with her shady history … but the Trump-haters will no doubt buy her Trump-hating book, so at least she has that going for her.

Even if she sometimes sounds “Unhinged.”
