Patriots Star Fined 3 Times for 3 Separate Plays in Same Game

Share

New England receiver Julian Edelman has been fined $63,504 for three separate instances of unnecessary roughness in a victory over Buffalo, only one of which was penalized.

Edelman was fined twice for $26,739 apiece and once for $10,026.

The only penalty came when he blocked Buffalo’s Siran Neal after calling for a fair catch on a punt.

The fines marred an otherwise good game from Edelman, who notched six catches for 70 yards and a stunning touchdown after it seemed like he had been tackled.

Edelman’s fines sparked fierce debate on Twitter, where NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe accused the diminutive receiver of avoiding the “dirty” label because of the color of his skin.

Former Patriots linebacker Matt Chatham fired back at Sharpe on the social media platform.

Do you think Edelman is a dirty player?

The heated exchange devolved to the point where Chatham accused Sharpe of whining and avoiding him, while Sharpe slammed Chatham for never being more than a special teams player.
