President Trump Has Personal Message for Patriots Ahead of Super Bowl

Share

As Super Bowl LIII between the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams approaches, each of us will have our reason for pulling for one team or the other Sunday.

Maybe it’s based on geography: We’re from Boston or LA.

Maybe our favorite — or least-favorite — player wears the jersey of one of the teams.

Maybe, absent a hometown or love/hate rooting interest, it’s just, “That guy won me my fantasy league, I hope he wins a title.”

Or, maybe, as in the case of President Donald Trump, you’re good friends with the owner of one of the teams.

Trump tweeted his support for friend Bob Kraft’s Patriots last week.

“Congratulations to Bob Kraft, Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and the entire New England Patriots team on a great game and season. Will be a fantastic Super Bowl!” the president said.

On Monday, when asked by The Daily Caller to provide a message for the Patriots in advance of the big game, the president obliged.

“I think they’re going to do great,” he said. “They’ll do good. They’ll do good.”

Does the president's rooting interest have any bearing on your own in this game?

Before trading New York for Washington as his city of residence, Trump was a frequent guest of Kraft at Gillette Stadium, taking in Patriots games from the owner’s box.

New England quarterback Tom Brady displayed a “Make America Great Again” hat in his locker back in 2015, saying at the time that he had met Trump in 2002 and considered him a “good friend.”

“He always gives me a call and different types of motivational speeches at different times,” Brady said.

The Patriots visited the White House after winning the Super Bowl against the Atlanta Falcons in 2017, although Brady didn’t make the trip.

Whether the Patriots will get the opportunity once again or it will be the Rams who will get the White House invite won’t be known until Sunday night.

But we have a pretty good idea for whom the president will be rooting.

After their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last year, Trump is surely hoping that Belichick and Brady will make the Patriots great again.
