Schoolgirl Fights Off Two Knifemen, Foils Apparent Attempted Murder
A schoolgirl in the United Kingdom is being hailed as a hero after she foiled an attempted murder of a schoolboy for which three men have been charged.
According to the U.K. Metro, the stabbing happened in South London on Friday.
In a video taken by a witness, two men, reportedly aged 18 and 19, were recorded stabbing a schoolboy.
That’s when the schoolgirl, who was apparently passing by, came in to hit the men and get them off of the 16-year-old victim, who suffered multiple stab wounds.
After she fought them off of the victim, another man in a blue shirt arrived on the scene with a knife, finally chasing the attackers away.
The person recording the video from a nearby building, meanwhile, called 999 — the U.K.’s version of 911 — which alerted police to the crime.
“Police were called at 4.36pm on Friday to reports of a fight on Amesbury Avenue, Streatham Hill,” a statement from Scotland Yard read.
“Officers attended along with paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance.”
Media outlets in the United Kingdom have reported that the boy is being treated in the hospital for multiple stab wounds. As of early Sunday morning, reports still read he was in critical condition.
The name of the schoolgirl isn’t mentioned — although given that she’s likely a minor and there’s the possibility of retaliatory violence, that’s probably a good thing.
You can see the video at the U.K. Metro’s website, although we warn you that it is violent. Viewer discretion is advised.
Perhaps most ominously, police reported that a gun was found at the scene.
The 18- and 19-year-olds were taken into custody at the scene. In addition, a 58-year-old man was later arrested in connection with the crime.
All three currently remain in the custody of police.
The incident is the latest in a series of knife crimes that have hit the United Kingdom in recent years, prompting severe controls on sharp objects, with one retiring judge even suggesting that kitchen knives might need to be turned in for modification.
That hasn’t seemed to have stopped anything, with London’s murder rate having surpassed New York City’s back in February for the first time in modern history.
