Three Boys Save To Buy Hundreds of Flowers for Every Female Student & Staff Member at School
For many women, the height of romance is getting a dozen roses from their admirer. There’s something so classic and constant about red roses that you’ll rarely see any other flowers featured around Valentine’s Day.
But three young men have outdone many of their peers by purchasing and distributing over 300 pink carnations. That’s a lot of flowers — buckets of them, in fact.
It all began with a boy whose last name is literally “Valentine.” Tristan Valentine wanted to make February 14 special for all the girls at his school in Kansas, Summit Trail Middle School.
The kind-hearted 8th grader approached Principal Sarah Guerrero and proposed his plan, which she happily approved. “He wanted every young lady to feel special that day and accepted,” Guerrero told USA Today.
After getting the go-ahead, Valentine rallied the troops, which included 6th grader Lincoln Holmes and 7th grader Kyan Rice. Together, the three of them pooled their cash and earned enough to buy several hundred pink carnations, ensuring no one would be left out.
“We wanted every girl to feel important and special on Valentine’s Day,” their ringleader, Valentine, told KMBC. “We worked hard to make sure it was going to be a surprise to everybody. I only told a few friends, and the girls seemed surprised and happy.”
“I got chills seeing it happen,” the principal added. “The ladies were so excited. It gives them something to look up to and feel good about themselves. It’s also what makes Summit Trail special.”
“I donated $100 of my own money,” 7th grader Rice said. “I had the money from soccer refereeing. Tristan and his mom got the flowers Wednesday and brought them to school today. Lincoln and I got here early, and we started handing them out.”

They handed the flowers out at the front entrance, making sure to send off each recipient with an encouraging remark. And it wasn’t just students who got flowers — female and male staff members were gifted with a single pink carnation, too.
“‘In all you do, do with LOVE,'” the principal tweeted with photos of the Valentine’s Day surprise. “These young men arranged to buy a flower for every female in the building! STMS Proud!”
“I’m proud of the boys but it’s parents like ours that instill these values in them,” she later added. “They deserve all this recognition and more! And the best part of all is that when they were asked about ST, they beamed with pride! Big smiles and said ST was a special place!!”

This is either one of the most selfless acts of kindness ever, or a very clever way to play the numbers game (or both!). These young men are certainly headed in the right direction, and some of their classmates were sad they hadn’t come up with the idea themselves.
“One guy even tried to buy a flower for $5 from me,” Holmes admitted. “Summit Trail is a special school. And who knows, maybe we started a new tradition here.”
