Trump Sends Reporters Into a Frenzy After Ordering "Out" During Oval Office Interview

Share

To put it mildly, President Donald Trump’s relationship with the media has been somewhat different from that of his predecessor’s.

Part of that is that the fact that, unlike Barack Obama, the media doesn’t get a “thrill up its leg” when thinking about the White House’s current occupant. However, another part of that is the fact that Trump has made it clear that, when it comes to White House news conferences, it’s his house and his rules.

Among those who still don’t seem to grasp that concept is CNN’s Jim Acosta. Acosta has been noted for his rhetorical battles with the president during news conferences, including routine grandstanding like talking over press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders after his turn was over back in December.

If you thought Acosta learned a lesson from that skirmish — well, you’re obviously not familiar with Jim Acosta. The CNN reporter went to Twitter to fume about being told “out” by the president after persisting in a line of questioning after his turn had ended  during a news conference on Tuesday.

According to Acosta’s tweets, the incident stemmed from questions regarding the vagaries around President Trump’s alleged “s***hole countries” remarks, which is the s***hole story that just won’t die.

“In Oval Office pool spray, I asked why Trump wants more people to come in from Norway. He said he wants people to come in from everywhere,” Acosta tweeted Tuesday. “Verbatim coming.”

“In Oval Office pool spray, I asked why Trump wants more people to come in from Norway,” Acosta tweeted, using slang for a brief photo opportunity. “He said he wants people to come in from everywhere. Verbatim coming.”

Given that the questions came at a short media session during a Trump meeting in the Oval Office with President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan, there wasn’t a whole lot of time to answer every single query.

Do you think Jim Acosta had this coming?

That didn’t stop Acosta from apparently feeling he was entitled to the full Barbara Walters treatment. According to The Daily Caller, Acosta “shouted” what were described as “many” questions at the president.

Trump first tried the diplomatic route, having his people tell Acosta, ”Jim, thank you. Please exit. Thanks, everyone.”

When that didn’t work, Trump resorted to one word: “Out.”

On Twitter, Acosta went into a minor-league frenzy of feigned indignation over the perceived insult.

Well, that’s what happens when you accost the president (pun unintended). It’s been almost a year now and you would think that Jim Acosta would have gotten the clue.

Sadly, it appears clues are in very short supply these days at CNN. More’s the pity.
