US Olympian takes completely unprovoked shot at Pence, questions his faith
It can’t be a good look that while North and South Korea can present a unified front at the Winter Olympics, America seems to be more divided than ever.
As fake and tenuous as whatever coalition the Koreas are presenting, at least they’re trying to pretend like everything’s OK.
But some American Olympians can’t even be bothered to do that.
Take, for example, U.S. Olympians Adam Rippon and Gus Kenworthy.
Both are openly gay athletes. Rippon is a figure skater and Kenworthy is a skier.
So far, so good. Regardless of sexuality, Rippon and Kenworthy are representing the country as the United States tries to accrue as many gold medals as possible.
The problem comes when the two use their platform as Olympic competitors to attack and question Vice President Mike Pence.
Following the opening ceremonies in PyeongChang, Kenworthy immediately took to social media.
Now, it’d be one thing if Kenworthy was going on to social media to celebrate, which he did.
But Kenworthy also took a completely unprovoked shot at Pence.

“Eat your heart out, Pence,” Kenworthy wrote before finishing with the hashtag of “TeamUSGay.”
If that seems petty and immature, that’s because it is — but perhaps not entirely unexpected.
In January, Rippon saw fit to question Pence’s Christianity.
“To stand by some of the things that Donald Trump has said and for Mike Pence to say he’s a devout Christian man is completely contradictory,” Rippon said in an interview with USA Today.
Pence has long been a target of the gay community because of the conception that he is somehow anti-gay.
The irony of the situation is that Pence virtually committed political suicide defending gay rights in Indiana.
In 2015, Pence removed protections for small businesses that shielded them from lawsuits based on religion. It was a hot topic at the time when several Christian business owners were sued for refusing to participate in gay weddings.
Which is all to say that hatred from gay activist groups directed at Pence seem entirely misplaced.
But why let that get in the way of petty sniping on a grand worldwide stage?
