Watch: Even CNN Panel Turns on Dems After Truth About Their Treatment of Hope Hicks Comes Out

Share

It’s coming back to bite.

Since the 116th Congress opened in January, it’s been clear that the House Democrats’ endless stream of investigations is clearly aimed more at causing embarrassment in the Trump White House than doing any service to American democracy.

But if a recent panel discussion on CNN is any indication, Democrats are just embarrassing themselves instead.

The issue arose Friday, when CNN host John King brought up last week’s disgraceful treatment of former Trump Organization staffer and White House aide Hope Hicks.

Hicks appeared Tuesday before the House Judiciary Committee, where she was subjected to treatment more befitting an airheaded Hollywood actress than a former top adviser to the president of the United States.

Behind closed doors meant to guarantee the secrecy of the questions – and highlighting the occasion’s solemnity – committee members took pictures of Hicks, as though her striking good looks were the reason she was there.

Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, the Democrat from New York, then made things even worse by addressing Hicks as “Ms. Lewandowski” – deliberately or unintentionally conflating her with former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.

As King phrased the question on the Democrat-friendly CNN, Nadler & Co. – with juvenile, unprofessional behavior — had done their cause of smearing the president more harm than they might realized.

Check it out here:

“Why are congresspeople taking pictures of a witness? If you’re having a serious, prepared, thorough investigation, what is that all about?” King asked.

“For the conversation, Nadler himself, who called off the picture-taking there, repeatedly referred to her as Ms. Lewandowski. Corey Lewandowski was the campaign manager.

“He fought to get her testimony. He knows her name is Hope Hicks. At one point she said, ‘My name is Ms. Hicks, Mr. Chairman.’ If you’re going to make the case to the American people that you’re conducting serious, credible, investigations and you’re prepared, why be amateur and offensive?”

Well, considering the general behavior of House Democrats (not to mention the party’s various senators trying to become president) “amateur” and “offensive” are pretty much a given among liberal politicians these day.

But as King’s panel’s response indicated, even the party faithful might have seen too much of it by this point.

The Hicks moment just summed it up.

“He probably at this point ought to apologize to her because now that it’s out there it’s becoming a source of criticism among Hicks’s defenders who say, ‘This is proof Democrats aren’t being serious, that they won’t even be  respectful to a woman in this context,’” CNN White House correspondent Abby Phillip told King.

“I don’t know what was in his mind, but he should probably explain it to people at this point.”

It’s worth noting that in a CNN interview last week, Nadler did apologize, with the lame excuse that he’d become distracted during the questioning and had referred to Hicks by Lewandowski’s name accidentally.

The fact that Nadler actually did it three times over the course of the questioning — and that Hicks had been rumored to be romantically involved with Lewandowski thanks to the scandal-mongering author Michael Wolf and his “Fire and Fury” look at the Trump White House — makes that a little hard to believe.

(We’ll leave aside the fact that “Hicks” and “Lewandowski” sound nothing like each other. And it would take a strange kind of blindness to confuse the man and woman physically. Let’s just say Nadler’s already iffy credibility isn’t anywhere near strong enough to get him a free pass on this.)

Even with the Democrats’ long, long history, the hypocrisy has rarely been more obvious:

Will this Hope Hicks interview do lasting damage to Democrats?

The party that pretends to be a champion of women has no problem insulting or objectifying beautiful women who aren’t of the same political persuasion.

For conservatives, that’s a dog-bites-man story, of course. But here’s the thing:

A conversation like the one King led on Friday wouldn’t have been out of place on Fox News.

Even one of the major networks might have found way to take a few minutes’ break from Trump bashing to air some comments sure to embarrass the House Democratic majority in general, and the bilious Jerrold Nadler in particular.

But this is CNN – the network second only to MSNBC in its predictable fealty to Democrats and antipathy to all things Trump.

When a CNN panel is mocking Democrats who are trying to look as if they’re seriously concerned about their country – and not just playing political games with the nation’s future – the rest of the country is seeing liberal tactics for exactly what they are.

Democrats might have hoped their strategy would weaken the Trump White House by thousands of small wounds, but it’s coming back to bite them instead.
