Watch: NHL Goalie with Vertigo Hits Head in Terrifying Fashion Due to Out-of-Control Teammate
There was a scary moment in Monday night’s game between the San Jose Sharks and the Chicago Blackhawks.
Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford suffered a concussion late in the first period when his teammate, Dylan Strome, inadvertently barreled into him while trying to defend a breakaway by the Sharks’ Logan Couture.
Couture flipped a backhand wrist shot toward the goal, which Crawford stopped, but then Strome, who was in pursuit of Couture, couldn’t stop himself and ran into Crawford. He knocked Crawford backward and Crawford’s head hit the side of the goal.
Both Crawford and Strome went down. Crawford stayed on his back for a moment, then got to his knees before pausing to get his bearings. He was escorted off the ice and left the game for good.

After the game, which the Blackhawks lost 7-3, Chicago coach Jeremy Colliton confirmed Crawford’s head injury.
“He has a concussion, so he’ll be under the protocol and we’ll go from there,” Colliton said, according to NHL.com.
“Of course, we’re concerned,” the coach added.
While concussions are always a concern, it is particularly concerning for Crawford, who missed most of last season with concussion symptoms.
He was injured in a Dec. 23 loss to the New Jersey Devils and wound up being placed on injured reserve and missed the rest of the season. It was initially thought that he was suffering from “vertigo-like symptoms,” according to SB Nation.
But then team adviser Scotty Bowman said he believed Crawford was suffering from a concussion, according to Second City Hockey.

Crawford returned to the ice at the start of the season and has a record of 6-14 so far, with a goals against average of 3.28, the highest of his career.
Chicago has the worst record in the NHL’s Central Division with just 26 points.
“Crow is such a big part of our team,” said Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy, according to NHL.com. “To lose him is not good. You just feel for him. In a game like that where there were parts where our goalie is hung out to dry and then for them to take guys crashing on him is not fair either.”
Cam Ward replaced Crawford in net. It’s not clear what the status of Crawford is going forward.
