Miami Dolphins Player Forced To Have Arm Amputated at Scene of Horrific Crash

Share

Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Kendrick Norton had his left arm amputated Thursday after a car crash in the Miami area.

The 22-year-old Norton’s Ford F-250 crashed into a concrete barrier, overturned and came to rest upside-down, Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Alex Camacho said, per ESPN.

The former Miami Hurricane was treated on the scene and then transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

The injuries he suffered were not considered life-threatening.

Norton’s agent issued a statement about the crash Thursday and asked for prayers.

The Miami Dolphins also released a statement on Twitter.

Per WFOR-TV in Miami, a passenger in Norton’s vehicle suffered minor injuries and was also transported to the hospital. The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver of a second vehicle involved did not sustain any injuries.

Norton’s former University of Miami teammates, including Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku, said they were praying for him Thursday.

Norton was taken in the seventh round of the 2018 draft by the Carolina Panthers. He was among the final preseason cuts but signed to the team’s practice squad.

Late in his rookie season, the Dolphins signed Norton from the Panthers’ practice squad to their 53-man roster. He did not play in any games during his rookie season.

Norton was scheduled to make $495,000 this season, per Spotrac. None of the money is guaranteed.

This is the second time in five years that an NFL player has suffered a major accident on the Fourth of July in Miami.

In 2015, Jason Pierre-Paul, who was with the New York Giants at the time, severely injured his hand in a fireworks accident, and four days later he had his right index finger amputated.

Pierre-Paul returned just months later with a padded club on his hand and has continued to play since then, even notching 12.5 sacks in 2018.
