Vacationer Wins Cruise Ship Karaoke with Crowd-Pleasing Cover of Journey's 'Any Way You Want It'
Have you ever performed karaoke for an audience? You jump up on stage, grab the microphone, and turn toward a computer or television screen that displays the words to the song of your choosing.
It’s usually best to pick one that you can sing somewhat well, just so you don’t embarrass yourself.
Though if you know the words to the song like the back of your hand, you probably don’t need the lyrics in order to sing.
James Corden proves this in his “Carpool Karaoke” videos. Basically, Corden picks up a celebrity and the two of them sing to the celebrity’s songs while driving in the car.
One of my favorite renditions of “Carpool Karaoke” is the Broadway version Corden did before the 2016 Tony Awards.
One man on a Royal Caribbean cruise put on a showstopping performance during a karaoke competition on the ship.
Andy Streich was called up on stage by the emcee, and it’s clear from his friends’ reactions that they were ready to see Streich perform.
“Please tell me, why you feel you deserve the title of karaoke superstar?” the host asked.
In the voice of Forest Gump, Streich answered, “It’s not that I feel I deserve it, it’s just that mama always told me that karaoke is like a box of chocolates.”
He sang “Any Way You Want It” by Journey, and audience members were blown away by the performance.
Channeling the vocal talents of the band’s lead singer Steve Perry, Streich danced and sang his way across the stage.
The audience was really into it and even joined in on the chorus.
He got a standing ovation and won the contest! Great job Andy!
