Ad Celebrating Stepfathers Proves That a Real Dad Is More Than Just by Blood

Share

Take it from someone who was raised by her stepdad — a father is more than just DNA and a shared last name.

Parenthood is what you make of it. Whether you’re raising kids who are your own flesh and blood or ones you’ve simply chosen to love, being a parent is all about making every moment count.

It isn’t always easy when you’re a part of a blended family. According to The Stepfamily Foundation, “1300 new stepfamilies are forming every day” and “over 50% of US families are remarried or re-coupled.”

For this reason, it’s important to recognize not just the biological parents and grandparents in our lives but to see the positive impact step-parents often have as well.

Father’s Day is a celebration of any “dad” figure whether he is blood-related or not. This day is for the man who stepped up and filled a role in a child’s life.

Budweiser is generally known for its high-budget Super Bowl ads but this year the popular brewing company is adding something even more memorable to the mix.

In a new ad released just in time for Father’s Day, Budweiser is inviting families to celebrate the stepdads in their lives.

“Stepfathers embark on a difficult journey when it comes to building a relationship with their stepchildren,” the company wrote in their YouTube caption.

“Although there are often ups and downs,” the caption reads, “many stepchildren grow to consider their stepfather one of the most important people in their lives. So this Father’s Day, Budweiser is shining an unexpected light on fatherhood by toasting stepfathers who have risen to the occasion and owned their roles as fathers.”

Watch as these three blended families tell their heartwarming stories of growing together in life and love. You might need to pause and grab the tissues before hitting play.

Through all the challenges, ups and downs, these families have learned what a true dad looks like. It wasn’t always easy, but from the smiles on these stepfathers’ faces, it is clear every second was worth it.

“I didn’t really have like a close relationship with my like actual dad,” stepson Victor says in the video. “So when I met Mark I was like oh, this is like what a dad is.”

Now Budweiser is inviting others to share their blended family experiences too. “Tell us your story of an amazing father in your life,” the company wrote on Facebook. “For every story shared, we will donate $1 to the Stepfamily Foundation Inc., a nonprofit organization that supports blended families.”

The stories need to be shared between June 12 and June 16, and Budweiser will donate up to $10,000.

Do you have a story to share about your own dad? This Father’s Day, remember to take a moment to recognize any dad — whether he shares your DNA or not — who has played a positive role in your life.
