Chip Gaines Shuts Down Writer Who Calls Out His & Joanna's Family Values

Share

When an opinion writer for the Clarion Ledger, a part of the USA Today Network, published an article challenging the Gaines family’s priorities, Chip very quickly defended his and Joanna’s career decisions.

In the beginning of Daryl Austin’s article, he wrote that he loved the HGTV stars. He said, “There is much to be admired about them, including their commitments to their faith, marriage, family and community.”

But his article quickly shifted when he added, “Chip and Joanna Gaines did not get where they are now by putting their family first.” He said that their claims of “putting family first” could not possibly be true.

He then went on to write about how there was no way the couple could run all of their successful businesses and also make time for their family.

“No matter how rich and famous, we are all limited by the same 24 hours in a day. You cannot do all they’ve done (or even a fraction of it) and still have any real time left over for family. Frankly, I wonder where they even find the time to brush their teeth, let alone spend quality, one-on-one time with each child daily,” he wrote.

He then closed his article warning people who want to be like Chip and Joanna that they would not be able to be nearly as successful and also spend quality time with their kids.

When Chip Gaines read the article, he knew that he needed to clear some things up.

“I dont know daryl, & he clearly doesnt know me. But for the record: If there is ever a need w/ my family (1st), I’ll shut this circus down so fast it will make your head spin,” he wrote on Twitter.

Chip then reiterated their strong dependence on their faith as well, “BUT jo & I believe, w/ God anything is possible. Including having an amazing family AND a career you love.

Fans are responding to his tweet in support.

Even Bob Goff, the author of “Love Does”, defended the Gaines’, writing: “We love you guys. You’re the real deal and respect how you’ve navigated so much with purpose, intention, and love.”

When reading Chip’s tweet, two words come to mind: truth and grace. While he did correct the wrong assumptions made about his family, he never defamed the writer. He just recognized that Daryl obviously didn’t know him or his family.

Daryl has not yet responded, but maybe Chip’s response will cause him to reconsider his views on the family’s priorities.
