Confused Hogg Gives Weird Speech in Toronto, At Times Seemed to Think He's in US
During the War of 1812, the United States tried to invade Canada and subsume it into our union. The effort was unsuccessful, and for better or worse the Canadians got their independence from the United Kingdom and have since been their own entity.
I give this short history lesson not for you, dear reader, but for David Hogg. On the off-chance he reads this — and Hogg seems the type to consume any press about him, whether it be good or ill — it would help him to know a bit of history, since footage from the Toronto International Film Festival seems to indicate he thinks Canada’s largest city is actually in the good ol’ U.S.-of-A.
According to Townhall, Hogg was in Toronto for the premiere of “Fahrenheit 11/9,” Michael Moore’s latest film in which he tries to explicate the rise of Donald Trump to Americans in a po-faced manner that doesn’t take into account that liberals trying to explicate the rise of Donald Trump to Americans has a lot to do with why Donald Trump is president.
Hogg addressed the audience in his usual self-effacing manner after the film ended.
Only he kind of forgot where he was.
“I have a question for you guys: Who’s ready to save America?” Hogg asked the crowd.

“Who’s ready to make America the country we say it is on paper and make it the actual country that it wants to be?”
He then went through a laundry list of grievances us Americans should care about — not realizing, of course, that he wasn’t in America.
“I think the most important thing to realize, however, is the problems we face as a country, whether it be water in Flint, Michigan or the amount of mass incarceration of people of color that can’t vote,” he said.
“In Florida, the amount of eligible African Americans that would otherwise be eligible to vote but can’t because of a previous conviction is 21 percent,” Hogg said. “In Kentucky it’s 26 percent. In Mississippi and Alabama it’s 15 to 16 percent. These are people of color that have been historically discriminated against and still are to this day, and have had their rights taken away.”
An audience member yelled “Shame!”
“Exactly. Turn that shame into your vote!” Hogg replied
A vote for Justin Trudeau, one imagines.
Hogg later tried to save himself by acknowledging he was in Canada, even though his previous tenor didn’t seem to indicate it. “I think Canadians can donate to political campaigns in the United States,” Hogg said.
Except, as Tim Graham at Newsbusters points out, that would be very illegal. In fact, I seem to remember the Mueller probe is trying to single out someone over Russian donations even though there’s no evidence he received any.
In a New York Magazine profile of the Parkland activist published last month, the author says Hogg told her he wants to go to college in 2019 and “read a s—load” of books.
Along with a book of etiquette, maybe he might want to put an atlas on that reading list.
