Ellen DeGeneres Shows Photo of "Sign From Above" She Got Moment Dad Died
During the Jan. 11 taping of the Ellen Show, generous host Ellen DeGeneres took a moment mid-show to share some devastating news with her fans.
She had told her audience the week had been difficult, as her home in Montecito, California, was experiencing deadly mudslides.
However, earlier in the week, her father Elliot DeGeneres had also passed away at the age of 92.
Ellen reassured her fans at home and in the audience that her father had lived a long and happy life. “He was 92 years old, he had a good long life, and he lived his life exactly how he wanted,” she said.
She also explained on Twitter that his death was not unexpected, and she was able to say goodbye. A gift that not everyone gets to experience.
During the show, she shared a picture with the audience of her and her father from her childhood.

“I don’t know how old I was, but I do remember that picture,” she explained while looking at the photo.
Before returning to the scheduled topic of the show, Ellen took a moment to share a few things about her father.
“He was very proud of me,” she said. “He loved this show and he was a kind man…”
Ellen also included an incredible story about a vacation she’d taken with her family.
“We only took one family vacation,” she said. “When I was a little girl, we came to this lot, to the Warner Bros. lot, and took the tour and went around.
“And now, I work on the Warner Bros. lot and I have my own stage with my name on it. So he was really proud of that.”
But what was most incredible about her story was what happened when she left the studio on the day of her father’s death.
“I was leaving the building, and I looked back and there was a rainbow over the Warner Bros. studio,” she said, showing the audience a picture from that day.
When I was a kid, my dad took us on one vacation to Warner Bros. Studios. He loved this business. He loved that I was in it. When he died, I saw this rainbow over the stage they named for me. pic.twitter.com/QQswe3mwfi

“This is what I saw after I talked to my dad and he died 10 minutes later after that. Pretty amazing. … I got a rainbow before he died.”
What an incredible sign from her father and above. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ellen during this difficult time.
