Fact Check: Is an Outbreak of 'Modern-Day Lynchings' Killing Black Americans, as AOC Claims?

A group of prominent Democrats has asked the FBI to investigate a series of hangings involving black people, and the most prominent member of the progressive wing of the party — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York — has called the series of incidents “modern-day lynchings.”

But is that true? Here’s what we know.

The call for an investigation was first reported on Thursday, when The Grio said that “nearly 60 Democrats” had sent a letter to FBI Director Kash Patel asking him to investigate the hangings.
