Moment Special Needs Student Works Up Courage To Sing to His Prom Date Will Melt Your Heart

Promposals have become a staple in high school circles. They’re obsessed over just as much as any other aspect of prom season.

Just as with gender reveal parties and proposals, it’s difficult to come up with something that hasn’t already been done — but there’s definitely a place for the heartfelt classics.

For one young couple, Devin and Hannah, who attend Chisholm Life Skills Center school, the classics were a hit.

On one Sunday before prom, there was a knock at the door.

“Go get the door!” Hannah’s mother urged her. “Go see who’s at the door.”

Hannah opened the door to a familiar face. Devin stood at the door, offering her a carefully selected bouquet of ferns and yellow roses.

Once she accepted the flowers and they both stood outside, Devin worked up the courage to ask the question he’d come to ask.

“Would you like to go to prom with me?” he said.

“What?” Hannah asked.

“Would you like to go to prom with me?” he repeated. She quickly nodded.

Then Devin’s dad jumped in to remind his son of what he’d wanted to do next.

“Remember what I was telling you at home, when you were talking about her? And your friendship, and your relationship…” coached his dad. “Tell her!”

So Devin asked his new prom date if she would like to hear a song he had chosen just for her. “So, do you want me to sing it for you?”

She nodded again, so he turned to his parents. “Okay. She said yes, dad.”

As everyone got settled in for the serenade, Devin absolutely glowed. “I’m excited,” he told Hannah’s mom, Kelly, who was recording the whole thing. “I can’t wait.”

He performed “Glory of Love” for Hannah, and the video has caught many people’s eyes and hearts. “The outpouring of love and support has taken on a life of its own,” said Kelly.

Hannah’s grandmother, who also witnessed the heartfelt promposal, was also moved. “You watch it and you want to cry… that kids can do something like that,” she said.

The two had a great time at the prom, according to comments and photos posted on Kelly’s Facebook page. We’re so happy these two found each other and that they have such dedicated, supportive, loving parents!
