Queen Arrives Unannounced at Fashion Week Wearing Outfit That Shows Up Vogue Editor-in-Chief

When we think of the Royal Family, perhaps we think of them spending time on the lawn with their corgis, taking high tea. Or sitting in a meeting with Parliament, listening as an important document is read.

However, the longest-ruling monarch ever to grace the halls of Buckingham Palace has quite a full schedule of events and functions to attend. Most recently, she was part of one of the most exciting scenes occurring in London this week.

Her Majesty the Queen made an appearance at London Fashion Week on Tuesday, February 20th.

Her attendance was discretely arranged by the British Fashion Council, and it was the first time she had ever attended the event.

The Queen attended the Richard Quinn show before presenting an award. She was seated in the front row next to Anna Wintour, the famed editor-in-chief of Vogue. Wintour is regarded as fashion royalty in her own right.

Wintour and The Queen were formally introduced last year when the title of Dame was bestowed upon Wintour.

The Sun reported she was given this title, “due to her work promoting British-born designers both at home and overseas.”

Her Majesty the Queen wore a beautiful suit encrusted with thousands of Swarovski crystals designed by her dressmaker, Angela Kelly.

Kelly attended the event with the Queen, undoubtedly so the two could discuss the designs they viewed and see what inspiration could be gleaned from them.

The main event for the Queen, though, was to present the inaugural Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design to designer Richard Quinn for his exceptional prints well known around the world.

The Royal Family Facebook page reports, “Already supplying leading stores around the world, Richard’s ethos of collaboration goes beyond his design business to include the creation of a print studio which offers high quality, accessible services to students and his peer group of emerging designers.”

The whole party was able to take in some of Quinn’s designs following the event. How thrilling to be honored in person by the Monarch!

The designs of the show included innovative choices such as biker helmets matching the print of the garments themselves.

While I consider the practicality of such a choice, it must be remembered that high fashion is perhaps beyond some of our comprehension.

Her Majesty the Queen, though, seemed perfectly content to be surrounded by such clothing. Her busy calendar seems filled to the brim with fascinating events and organizations.

The Royal Family website reports, “Her patronages and charities cover a wide range of issues, from opportunities for young people, to the preservation of wildlife and the environment.” Who knows what she will do next!
