Burger King Manager Chases Down Carjacker After Thief Attacks 80-Year-Old Woman

Share

A manager from Burger King went well above her job description when she chased down a woman who tried to attack an 80-year-old customer and steal her car.

The attempted carjacking took place on Aug. 30 at a Burger King in Sanford, Florida.

The victim, who asked not to be identified, said she parked her car and was walking inside to buy breakfast.

Out of nowhere, the 80-year-old said a woman rushed towards her, intent on ripping the car keys out of the victim’s hand.

“I noticed this lady walking up towards me pretty fast,” said the victim.

“I thought it was just a panhandler and she just kept coming right up to me, and she said, ‘Give me your keys or I’ll shoot you,’” the victim said.

But the attempted carjacker, Michelle Shockley, picked the wrong target. Shockley, who reportedly did not have a gun at all, found that an 80-year-old could put up a pretty strong defense.

“She kept grabbing me and kept trying to get my keys and I refused to give her my keys,” the victim said.

“And then finally she tripped me and knocked me over.”

Neither woman realized that by this time, the Burger King staff and customers realized there was a situation outside. The manager came rushing outside as Shockley took off running.

The manager, whose name has not been released, chased Shockley across the street to the 7-Eleven gas station. Police arrived and arrested Shockley, who was jailed with a bond set at $28,000.

Would you have taken action like this Burger King manager?

The 80-year-old considers the Burger King manager a hero. She didn’t have to race after the carjacker, but clearly thought standing up for an elderly customer was the right thing to do.

“She is the one who deserves the medal of honor here, believe me,” the victim said.

“She told me later that she ran across the street after the lady and tackled her and held her there until the police got there.”

The victim added that she made it through the ordeal without injury.

Thanks to a brave store manager, the 80-year-old still has her car, her keys and hopefully managed to still snag a breakfast sandwich.
