Dolly Parton To Reportedly Get Top Honors: Will Be Named Grammys' MusiCares Person of the Year
Dolly Parton is reportedly going to add another gem to her crown of achievements as the 2019 MusiCares Person of the Year.
According to Page Six, sources close to Parton revealed she had won the prestigious award, which is presented each year during GRAMMY Week.
The MusiCares Person of the Year is reserved for a recording artist who has made a significant contribution to the music industry while also demonstrating a genuine commitment to philanthropy.
The award was instituted in 1991, and if Parton indeed is the 2019 winner, she will make the seventh solo female artist to snag the title.
Parton would also make history as the first country-western artist to claim the title.
According to Page Six, “a Recording Academy spokeswoman could not confirm Parton’s selection and said nothing had been finalized.”
Previous winners include a long list of well-deserving recipients, including the 2018 winner, Fleetwood Mac.
Recording Academy MusiCares has a complete listing of previous winners, which include Sting, Lionel Richie, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder and Elton John.
Parton, aged 72, would join the ranks of a handful of women to accept the award, including Carole King, Barbara Streisand, Gloria Estefan, Bonnie Raitt, Natalie Cole and Aretha Franklin.
Parton has a history of faithfully giving to people in need, considering it her pleasure and personal responsibility to give back.
When wildfires struck her beloved Smoky Mountains in 2016, Parton gave millions to help aid displaced families.
“When you’re in a position to help, you should help,” Parton said at the time.
Parton, sometimes known as “The Book Lady,” has been a longtime advocate of children’s literacy, recently giving away the 100 millionth book through her charity, Imagination Library.
Parton has been married to husband Carl Dean for more than 50 years, and believes God has orchestrated her life to end up the way he wanted it.
“I think it probably was his plan for me not to have kids so everybody’s kids could be mine,” Parton said, reflecting on her recent involvement with children’s outreach.
Whether or not Parton officially wins the 2019 MusiCare Person of the Year Award remains to be seen, but she’s certainly a worthy nominee.
