Strange Cat Comforts Older Man After Surgery by Taking Nap and Holding Hands
Surgery can really take a toll on the body. Often, physicians suggest limiting activity for some time afterward to allow the body time to heal.
Doctor recommendations often include plenty of bed rest, which is more difficult for some than others. You might say it’s important to remain “purrrrr”-fectly still and calm during the initial recovery interval.
Well, one particular cat from South Island, New Zealand, might say just that. The identity of the kitty is unknown, but he seems incredibly nurturing.
An amusing tweet from 36-year-old member of parliament Andrew Falloon tells the tale. Right after it was posted, Falloon’s cute snapshot began to go viral.
The succinct caption sums it up rather hilariously.
“My Dad is recovering from an operation,” Falloon wrote. “Mum went out and left a door slightly ajar.”
Then there’s a slight pause for effect, while the photo sinks in. It shows a contented-looking feline snuggled against a sleeping gentleman.
In fact, these two look just like peas in a pod. They even appear to be holding hands, so to speak.
So Falloon’s wry concluding line immediately began prompting chuckles all across social media: “My parents do not have a cat.”

It seems some random tom saw the door standing open just a crack. He strolled inside, then hopped up on the snoozing man’s shoulder.
Apparently, this was just fine with Falloon’s father. At some point, he reached out while napping and gratefully grasped the kitty’s fluffy paw.
Falloon currently serves Rangitata, an electorate located on New Zealand’s South Island.
But thanks to that single tweet, he’s gaining some notoriety far and wide. MetroUK reports that the photo has even been transformed into a meme or two.

Several Twitter users have responded to the photo with some amazing cat stories of their own.
“You never own a cat, a cat owns or claims you — animals are very clever and this animal realized your dad needed some love,” one person said.
A separate individual talked about another mysterious feline who dropped in during a challenging time of recuperation. Once the healing process had sufficiently progressed, that sweet kitty sentinel simply moved on.
No one seems sure if the cat visiting Falloon’s father will continue to drop in occasionally, but for those wondering if the initial visit did some good, that picture is worth a thousand words.
