Mom Puts 10 Pacifiers in Newborn's Crib Before Bed, Shares Incredible Parenting Hack

Share

Life hacks: We can’t live without them. And, thanks to the brilliant invention of social media, we no longer have to.

The internet is loaded with hacks for everything from cutting your latte price in half to saving hundreds on groceries.

No one needs life hacks more than parents, especially those who have a newborn at home. Sleepless nights and fuss-filled days make parenting hacks as necessary as that first cup of coffee in the morning.

One mom from the U.K. shared her genius bedtime hack with a Facebook community called The Motherload.

According to the group’s description on Facebook, “The Motherload (is) the UK’s largest non-judgemental, witty and smug free parenting community!”

Sounds like a group we need in the U.S. Thankfully, this particular hack has gone viral, so we all get to enjoy its brilliance.

The Motherload blog shared Laura Gerson’s trick for getting her little one to sleep through the night. Apparently, all it takes is a crib full of … dummies?

If you’re unfamiliar with the term, it’s probably because our American lingo is a bit different. To translate, a dummy in the U.K. is a “binky” or a “pacifier” in the west.

Do you think this mom's hack is a good idea?

Whatever you call the magical device that keeps a baby soothed for hours on end doesn’t really matter. The big question is this:

What happens when that “sucky” falls out of baby’s mouth in the middle of the night? If you’re a parent who’s experienced this, you might simply answer, “You get up and put it back in, of course.”

Not so fast, Mom and Dad. You may be able to get out of those late night trips to the crib yet. Check out what Gerson has to say.

“Weird bedtime routine that’s worked… Lol,” she wrote in The Motherload group. “Since my little one was about 3 months old she’s gone to bed with roughly 10 dummies in with her.”

Gerson went on to share a photo of her daughter, Amelia, fast asleep in her crib with a bunch of “dummies” around her head.

“99% of the time she feels around, finds a dummy, sticks it in and she’s sorted!” her post continued. “Haven’t had to go into her… for about 8 months now… WINNING!!”

Wow! Could this simple hack really and truly work? According to Gerson’s interview with Babble, it totally does!

“It just made sense,” Gerson told Babble. She shared that the multiple pacifiers made it so much easier for her daughter to quickly soothe herself and go back to sleep, stress-free.

“Happy baby, happy mummy!” Gerson said. Isn’t that the truth? If only my 3-month-old was a “binky baby.” Unfortunately, he’ll have nothing to do with a nipple that doesn’t have milk waiting on the other end.

But for those who are fortunate enough to have a baby who just wants a pacifier? Why not try this easy hack once your little one is old enough to self-soothe? You may just find your first full night’s sleep is a few extra “dummies” away.
