Man Visits Animal Shelter Just To Take Naps with Lonely Cats

There are plenty of perks to owning a pet. In exchange for time and money, you get affection, companionship, and a new sort of liveliness in your home and life.

It’s therapeutic to hold, pet, or snuggle with a dog or cat. It can calm you down and even lower your blood pressure.

Many pet owners cherish the time they spend with their critters, and plenty let their pets join them when they sleep or take naps. A special few even make sure to buy beds big enough so that no pet will be left out.

Nap time is a sacred time for both dogs and cats. The American Kennel Club states that dogs spend 50 percent of their day sleeping, and 30 percent just lounging around.

According to PETMD, cats sleep 15 to 20 hours a day. Maybe these critters are on to something!

The term “cat nap” exists for a reason, and a man named Terry might just be that reason. Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary in Green Bay, Wisconsin, has a nice room with comfy couches where their cats can enjoy human interaction.

Would you volunteer to take naps with cats?

Their Facebook page says that “Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary Inc. is the first 501(c)3 no-kill, nonprofit cat sanctuary and adoption center that specializes in saving kitties with physical and psychological disabilities.”

On Sept. 18, they posted some photos of Terry, a very special volunteer who has made himself indispensable at the sanctuary — but for an amusing and unique reason.

“We are so lucky to have a human like Terry,” the sanctuary wrote in their post. “Terry just came along one day and introduced himself. He said he’d like to brush cats.”

“Eventually it became everyday. He brushes all of the cats, and can tell you about all of their likes and dislikes.”

“He also accidentally falls asleep most days. We don’t mind – Cats need this! Terry is a wonderful volunteer.”

The photos they shared were shots of Terry with various cats on various couches, a brush usually somewhere nearby but forgotten, as he and a cat snuggle up and took a snooze.

This simple but heartwarming scene has touched many people who have found Terry and his method of volunteering to be absolute perfection.

“When I grow up I want to be him, not exactly him, me napping with cats,” one person wrote.

Another commented with one word that many can agree with: “W H O L E S O M E.” More wordy people expressed the same sentiment: “Bless his heart! He has just given me some new retirement goals. ???”

“Looks like HE needs this too 😉 good for your soul,” another wrote. Terry and his cats do look pretty comfy. They both get the benefit of some quality time and a good napping session, so it’s a win/win.
