Odell Beckham Jr. makes desperate plea to poach Steelers superstar

We know that if Le’Veon Bell isn’t the best running back in the NFL, he’s certainly in the top three.

We also know his contract expires in March and if he becomes a free agent, nearly every team will try to sign him.

But it’s a good chance that nobody will be more creative than the New York Giants — specifically star receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

While the two friends made the rounds in Minneapolis leading up to the Super Bowl, Beckham shared this on Instagram.

“Welcome to the newest member of the Giants,” Beckham wrote, with a request for Bell to change his Instagram handle from @steelerrb26.

Before Giants fans get their hopes up, keep in mind what Bell told USA Today on Friday.

“I can’t really get into details, but I’ll say, last year around this time – we’re a lot closer this year,” Bell said of reaching a contract extension with Pittsburgh. “I feel like they’re making me a priority. They told me they’re going to make me a priority, so it feels good. I’m confident we’ll get something done, so you’ll probably see me at training camp this year.”

Do you expect Le'Veon Bell to re-sign with the Steelers?

But nearly as quickly as Bell reverses direction on the field, his comments off the field do the same.

During an interview with NFL Network, also on Friday, Bell was asked if he’d consider retirement should the Steelers slap him with the franchise tag.

“I would consider it,” Bell said.

But  just to make sure he covered all the bases, Bell told TMZ Sports — again, on Friday — “I just wanna get a deal done. I’m tired of having to deal with this every year.”

Again, during the NFL Network interview, Bell said his biggest concern is how much money is guaranteed.

“Yeah, a lot of it is about the guarantees,” he said. “That’s what a long-term deal really is, you know? You want that security. That’s why I said I’ll play on the tag. All that’s going to be guaranteed. You want to tag me again, OK, all that’s going to be guaranteed. That’s how I kind of look at it because I don’t want sign a long-term deal and everybody says I signed for $70 million but only the first year is guaranteed. So the first $17 million that you make in that year that’s the only year that’s guaranteed.”

One thing seems to be for certain: if Bell does sign with New York, it surely won’t be with the Jets.

Maybe the good news is that we finally nailed Bell down on something.
