Samantha Bee is at least two advertisers lighter after calling Ivanka Trump a “feckless c—” on the air.
As the Daily Wire reported, the car-trading website Autotrader acknowledged in a Twitter post that it is severing ties with Bee’s show “Full Frontal” after comments she made Wednesday night about the president’s daughter during a monologue about immigration policy.
Somewhat ironically, she began the spiel by making a Roseanne Barr joke: “We’re going to talk about racism and I just popped an Ambien, so buck up, everyone!”
Well, Ms. Bee, apparently, Ambien doesn’t make you racist the same way that it did for Roseanne.
It does make you a raging misogynist against Republican women and completely misinformed about immigration policy, though.
Bee was ranting about this tweet from Ivanka, which showed her with her 2-year-old son.

Now, because the Trump administration has been arresting parents who bring their children with them to cross the southern border and try to claim asylum in the United States on a zero-tolerance policy, liberals have been freaking out about this tweet, among other things.
We’ve covered this utter stupidity before (and why, no, these children aren’t being kept in holding pens and yes, bringing your child on a dangerous journey through Mexico to the United States, possibly with the aid of a human trafficker, makes you an unfit parent).
But Bee managed to take it to a brand new level of appalling.
“Ivanka Trump, who works at the White House, chose to post the second most oblivious tweet we’ve seen this week,” Bee said during her monologue.
“You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless c—!”
Amazingly, this came just one sentence after she referenced someone who may have lost an entire career by doing something relatively similar. And while Bee’s derogatory language was on a different level from Barr’s, it was also scripted and, one assumes, reviewed by multiple writers.
Exactly who thought this was a good idea?
In case you want to see it, here’s the original video. Viewer discretion is advised, of course, because Samantha Bee is a horrible NSFW person:

And here’s Autotrader making her network a bit poorer:
Thank you to those who reached out regarding our sponsorship of Full Frontal. The comments expressed by Samantha Bee were offensive and unacceptable and do not reflect the views of our company. As a result, we have suspended our sponsorship of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.

And then there was State Farm. “We have asked TBS to suspend our advertising in the program and are reviewing any future placements,” the insurer said in a statement later on Thursday, according to Fox Business. “We constantly review programs to ensure alignment to our programming guidelines and brand values.”
I’m sure that’s not the last sponsor to make such a statement, either.
When it comes to controversy, this isn’t Bee’s first rodeo. In the past, however, it’s been a bit easier to pass off the complete lack of self-awareness as an accident. For instance, when she insinuated that a chemo patient at last year’s Conservative Political Action Conference had a neo-Nazi haircut, it’s not like Bee or her writing staff had his medical reports, even though the segment itself was in incredibly poor taste.
But going on air, acknowledging that someone got fired for using a horrible slur on someone they dislike politically and then, mere seconds later, using a slur in in the same neighborhood of vulgarity on someone you dislike politically? That’s next-level lack of self-awareness. To quote another famous sexist, I’m not even mad. That’s amazing.
Bee issued the typical pro-forma apology, so there’s that if you care.
I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.

This marks the second or third time that Samantha Bee has “sincerely apologized” for crossing a line, in my recent memory. I suppose part of being a comedian is being on the edge, but there’s a certain subset of comedian that doesn’t even know where the edge is.
One got fired this week. Another, one suspects, is one or two more “sincere apologies” away from joining her in semi-permanent unemployment.
