
Six Fascinating, Barely-Known Facts Proving America and Jews/Judaism Have Been Linked Since the Founding
We often talk about America having Judeo-Christian roots, both in its culture and in the structure of our constitutional republic. However, for most of us, the focus is on the latter part of that hyphenated phrase; most of the original settlers in the colonies were Christians, after all, and we don’t think much about Jewish contributions to our national heritage.
We should, though — because, as one viral thread on social media recently demonstrated, Judaism gave us a lot more than we would ordinarily think. In a time where anti-Semitism seems to be increasing exponentially without end, it’s worth looking at just how deeply the Jewish faith is interwoven with the story of America.
The thread in question was originally posted to X in July by Amichai Chikli, Israel’s Minister of Diaspora and Combating Antisemitism. (A busy role these days, no doubt.)
