Starving Dog Is Sack of Bones When Rescuers Step in, Now Pup Is Unrecognizable

It is always heartbreaking to see images of mistreated animals. When they’ve been neglected, abused, starved and possibly so much more, it is painful to see them in so much pain. Often times, we may feel helpless, and it might be easier to simply turn away from the upsetting reality.

However, it is incredibly encouraging to see these deserving animals get their happy endings thanks to kind rescuers and loving forever homes.

For example, think about the case of Luna the Mexican street dog. According to Ecorazzi, photographer Tracey Buyce was visiting Bufil, Mexico, in Jan. 2013 as part of her work with Cats and Dogs International, a rescue organization.

Buyce saw an incredibly thin dog wandering the streets, its ribs and the knobbly nubs of its spine visible. That was when the photographer decided to take the pooch home.

“There was just something really soulful about her,” Buyce said. “I just knew I couldn’t leave her there.”

CANDi provided health care and nutrition for Luna and put her up for adoption. Today, she’s a healthy weight and lives with a loving family in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Similarly, a Doberman from Jackson County, Alabama, made a miraculous recovery after being rescued by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in Oct. 2018. A Doberman named Jenny was initially so malnourished when authorities found her that they couldn’t identify her breed.

According to WITI, the owners were charged with animal cruelty and forbidden from owning any animals for a space of two years. Fortunately, Jenny quickly improved.

Within the space of a couple months, Jenny gained significant weight and made a full recovery.

A small, unidentified dog highlighted in a Facebook video also experienced a dramatic transformation. The video opens with the tiny, skeletal pooch burying its snout in a dish filled with food.

The little dog has obviously been abused. Almost half of its coat has fallen away entirely, revealing stretched, pink skin beneath.

In fact, its hindquarters seemed composed of little more than skin and bones. It hardly seems to take a breath as it munches away at its food, stopping only when a man wraps it in a blanket and lifts it away.

The video cuts from scene to scene as caretakers groom the poor pup, snipping and shaving away its matted coat. The pinkish animal beneath hardly looks as though it should be alive.

As time fast forwards, the dog continues to munch away at meals, its frame slowly filling out and its coat growing back. The end result? A frisky, happy, curly-haired pup.

The video bears the caption, “Love heals all wounds.” And in this case, it most certainly did.
